I have and 1988 VL, the speedo does work but is about 10ks out (reads 50 when doing 60) and flickers around slightly when cruising at a constant speed. I am fairly sure this is caused by a worn mechanical part that reads the speed. Can anybody give me more information on how to fix this and make the speedo accurate. If it needs to be done professionally how much would it cost and where would be a good place in adelade?
thanks
you can get speedo cables from spare parts shops and put it in your self. may even be able to change the inner cable.
If its ur speedo, ring Auto Instruments at Kent Town in Adelaide.Originally Posted by VL3.0

Also what size wheels do you have??
It will change your speedo reading and flickering might be your speedo cable..

Thats what I was wondering about your tyre size as all the VL's except for Calais came out with standard 185/75R14 tyres and the Calais had 205/65R15
so relative to the original size tyre, what size are you running on your car? This may be all the problem is and a new cable needed to fix the wobble.
My VL's got bigger wheels on it and the speedo's out by 10K's (sit on 60 really doin 50) so yer get that checked out but i remember when i went to get mine fixed it was going to cost me about $250, but yeah i bet it's your wheels.
berlina's had 15's stock too thats wot mine has and it has the placard saying 15's

well mines got 17's on it,and the speedo don't like it Ha Ha Ha
All turbo models had 15inch wheels as standard. The 14inch wheels wont fit over the larger front brakes.
