Strong fuel smell from engine bay.

Hi all driving home last night and on the way home and when I got home I could definately smell fuel and the missus agreed, unsure of what it could be I will check all the lines later with the motor running and see if I can find a leak. I had an injector replaced last week so I'll definately check there and also where my manifold stud is missing is another spot to check. My car is running very rich and using allot of fuel. More than ever before.

Does anyone else have any experiences that are similar with their vl? are there any common leak spots?

does it smell fuely out the exhaust? is the car running rough? if so the injector might be stuck open. if not the fuel line to the engine might be dribbling at the fuel rail from when they replaced the injector. check the line on that particular injector. they might have stripped a thread when puting it all back together and its leaking somewhere. good luck, careful you don't get a fire if it's leaking under bonnet.

yeah thats what i'm really worried about, a fire. If I can't find the leak i'll take it to ultratune again. It died a couple of days ago (the car) and I limped it to ultratune it started improving on the way and they couldn't find any faults and its been ok since but running roughly and lost power.

Ahhh I found a leaky injector. Its the one they replaced for free (2nd hand) and just charged me for fitting. I'll ring em up and see what the go is. Thanks Bangers.

Yeah they can't do anything until tuesday due to easter so I'm housebound LOL They wanted to replace all the injectors when only one is faulty but I'll set 'em right haha I'm sure ya can get 1 reco injector and not have to buy 6.

just rang holden and they want $240 for 1 new injector.

Just try ebay. Hell you can get all six reconditioned for less then that.

I'll sell you 12 or so for 50 bucks, but they're not in flash condition unless you wanted to pick through them.

Where is it leaking? the Hose? Can the hose clamp be done up tighter?

Might be a project over easter, rip off the inlet and the fuel rail, get the injectors off, take them in to get cleaned, polish the inlet while its off, then bolt it back up.

Its leaking from the side of the injector itself, under idle its a slight dribble when you rev the motor it drips out the side.

good to hear you found the problem buddy. generally spare parts places take your injector, send it off and give you an exchange. otherwise it's probably an 'o' ring. take it out and take it to an injector place and see if they can overhaul it. or check the 'o' ring and if it's cracked or brittle see if they'll give you an 'o'ring. don't use any 'o' ring though as they need to be able to take high pressure.

I think its leaking where the hose meets the injector as they are the type where the hose and injector are an assembly.
Might see if I can get to the wreckers later and find an ok looking one.

240 for an injector Lol.....i have like a 18 of them sitting in my shed lol

Yeah I laughed at the guy over the phone. I asked for an RB30E injector and he said "what from a gemini?" I'm like huh?
They come from Asia they are made by uni jecs, Holden must have quite a large markup happening.

i have a full set off injectors that where in a running vl i had. i have now stripped the eng and whole car and i haven t sold the injectors as yet. if your on ebay look me up username lil_oneblue or send me an email to j_ackland@aapt.net.au
