Probably a dumb question but i got no idea

There's no dumb questions!
It's just a series designation, although some people like to think it means "race bred" this simply isn't the case..
There's also a RD28 which is the diesel version. You can learn a lot about them by going here.
Personally, I'd have a RB-X GT2 for my VB (if I was a millionaire.. then again I probably wouldn't have a VB if I was lol)
Nissan also made/make:
(4s) FJ / GA / KA / SR / CG / QG / QR / HR / MR
(I6s) L / S / RB
(V6s) VG / VE / VQ
(V8s) Y / VH / VK

read the link's page,
"This engine had four different outputs ranging from 114 kw to 140 kw depending on the model it was fitted to. The Turbo version was fitted to the VL Commodore, and produced around 150 kW."
just want to know what model car the 140kw rb30 went into
Maybe the RB stands for Rice Burner. I hope it doesn't stand for Rice Boy.
UCWeapon,
AFAIK the Cefiro got the RB20DET. RB30 and RB30ET are only an Australian market motors (skyline and VL). In Japan they do stroke the RB26 to three litres however this is still and RB26DETT.

No worries. Glad i could help.
I read something similar, I thought the second letter was more of the material used for the block, not the type of fuel it used. I'll look further into it tonight.
RB30S?? Wouldn't it just be called RB30... no e, I've never seen S but I've seen it without the electronic fuel injection.
I was full of beer when i posted the letter codes. i googled 'RB30 means' and found a link that told me what they mean. it has a heap of other stuff on nissan engines to. Hope this helps. http://r31skylines.bssc.au/Tech.htm
