On this VL, the little lever for the hot/cold selector is busted off and I can get a new one for around $20. The whole unit that is. I was wondering, how hard is it change it? Is it just a matter of taking the old one out and and reconecting plugs and stuff to the new one, or does the whole thing have to be rewired?

there is a screw at the top undo it and slide the control panel towards you gently then you will see the plugs and wireing
Label your vac lines if they aren't labelled already, or else your aircon/heater won't work anymore.
Sticky tape and a marker, if you look at the back of the round bit you can see the numbers on them, they correspond with the lines. Make sure they are the same.
could u not maybe just replace the little slider bit without disconecting the whole thing or is it tottaly busted????

It's all one unit as far as I know, your going to have to disconnect the lines at the back to get that piece out.
The little bit that you use to push up or down is snapped completely off. There's some wire that's still attaching it to lever, you can still use it, you've just got to push it in against the lever really hard.
