    Default fuel gauge problem

hey all ive had this problem since i put a new tank in as the old one had a leak.
when i fill the tank up to the point that fuel spits out at me the guage only reads 3/4 full and ive got no idea whats goin on.

i changed the internal float thing as i thought the other may of been bent.
and also changed the dial in the dash and still did the same.
can anyone help me out with this

    Is the tank same capacity?

Perhaps the sender unit is crook. If so changing only the float will not fix it.

I cant remember off the top of my head if there is an adjustment somewhere for it (my book is in my vl and the vl is at my workshop. if i get a chance tomorrow i will look it up) but if there is then perhaps adjustment is required.

Bad wiring could also be a problem. Check the wiring from tank to fuel gage. Perhaps a bad connection exists.

sorry i cant be much more help

Thats a tricky one. If its a 6 cylinder the float and sender will be attached to the internal pump so it might be worth changing the whole lot. The float arm is not reaching the top of the tank for some reason.

Different tank capacity may be your problem as there were a few different size tanks in the vl.also make sure the sender isnt fouled on the internal baffles in the tank this may require you to remove and refit the sender
