    Default Installing Shockies

hey guys and girls just a quick question,

is it easy to install front and rear shockies yourself and would it be best to take it to a mechanic and have them do it.

also if it is easy to so yourself does anyone know the process of doin it or is it pretty self explanitary once you get your head under there.

    thanks peoples

    darren...

the rears are easy but the fronts much more involved being part of the mc pherson strut setup
elleries workshop manual is a help and much better than gregories, IMO

you shouldn't need to touch the thread which affects wheel alignment, so your wheel alignment will be exactly the same as it was before, the only reason you'll need an alignment is if you need one before you do it.

Wheel/Suspension places just put wheel alignments in to get the extra money, and cover their arses. But wheel alignments are required at least once a year anyway.

jeez thats dear. i'd have to check at work tomorrow. i was taking a guesstimate. majority of shocks where i work are $139 a pair then they jump anywhere upto an extra $100 each for the strut type.

you have standard shocks, then there are the strut type which are like a mcpherson strut with the shock built into it. it goes from behind the wheel all the way to the top of the tower, you just put your spring back on top of it. look behind the front wheels of little cars like the suzuki swift etc, you'll see what i mean.

standard type on back and strut type on front. so in answer to your other question yes the fronts are a a lot dearer than rears as you have to buy your fronts individually and your rears as a pair.

i'm at work now and my original thought was correct but i typed in something else as i wasn't totally sure. the front shocks come as a pair of inserts that go into your strut and are $189 a pair. your rears are independent shocks that are $139 a pair. so i was half right before. the fronts are strut types but you can buy the shocks separately as inserts. sorry for any confusion guys.
