hi i think the difference is that the turbo block has the oil feed and return fittings and the same for the water feed and return in the the block for the turbo im not sure if the standard block has them or not

Spot on.. also (I forgot which, can someone help lol) either the Series 1 or the Series 2 NA RB30 block had the things in the block, ready to be used for a turbo conversion
series 2 is the block to go for.
cheers for that.
Later models " series II " as in late 87 & 88's, both the same block![]()
also the turbo block has turbo pistons which give the lower compression ratio, to get around this you could use a decompression plate. The cam in a turbo is different as well.
But to the best of my knowledge the rest of the motor itself is the same.
Can i put a n/a rb30 head on a rb30 turbo block? Or r they different? Just wanna drive my turbo one problem after another!
series 1 NA VL doesn't have the oil feed/drain dilled.
series 2 NA and turbo *blocks* are same same
the turbo got lower comp pistons, but on today's good fuels with a bit of a tune you'll have no problem running the 9.0:1 comp of an NA bottom end and pistons.
both turbo and NA heads/valves/etc are same same - however the VLT got a *slightly* different cam. There is minimal difference in the grinds - not enough to stress about anyway.
