    Default noise from fuel tank

My VL 6 wagon has a loud vibrating noise coming from the fuel tank, the engine still runs but I assume its the internal fuel pump on the way out or might something just be loose in there, am resigned to taking it out and looking, I have a workshop manual

a fuelmiser brand replacement pump is abvailable for $130, are these OK?

Is it a constant "buzzing" noise? this is normal in all the vl's I have heard. If its a clunking/banging/knocking sound then you should check it out. otherwise it'll be fine. The pumps are very noisy for some reason

2 autoelectricians quoted $2oo for the pump and said pumps were hard to find and 200 to 300 for labor so I did it myself, lots of internel pumps around for about $125, the one I got came in a cooper box but was said to be goss??

not easy without a hoist, siphoning the petrol needed a long hose and a bucket as the bottom of the petrol tank is close to the floor

intrigued to see no insulation of electric terminals, I guess petrol doesnt conduct electricity

have elleries VL workshop manual which was helpful
all seems OK but were later some gurgling noises from tank, hopefully caused by some air trapped in the system
theres a swirlpot in the tank that I couldnt see so I cam only hope the intake finished up in there

a bit scary with all that petrol around knowing that only a single spark was needed for the big bang

does anyone know for sure if the fuel system will still run on the high pressure pump only?
also some say theres no low pressure pump in the sedans

Goss have been making fuel parts ect. for years also and the gurgling was probabley air as you had fuel lines off and all VL EFI's have 2 pumps as far as I know..

its a strange sucking or gurgling noise that seems to be from inside the tank and wasnt there before,it comes and goes but the engine runs perfectly any suggestions??

also theres a trapdoor in the fuel filler line that the unleaded petrol pump nozzel has to push open when filling with petrol, the spring on it has gone so its not now closing, would this cause any problem?

Dont worry about the gurgling noise mine did this the whole time i owned it. It mainly did it when it was low on fuel but never caused any probs.

    interesting site thanks
I think I may have wrongly positioned the pump so its not in the swirlpot, but it seemed to only want to go in the one way
anyone actually replaced the pump in the fueltank?

theres a gauze filter on the intake of the pump which can become blocked but wwas clean in mine

I took the internal pump out and put it back and now all is OK, theres apparently a swirlpot in the tank and the pump needs to be sitting in it, it cant be seen and I couldnt feel it, this time I positioned the pump with the bolts loosely done up and moved it up and down several times

along with the noises, the car ran short of petrol earlier, it lost power but kept on running very slowly

I think the fuel from the return line runs into the swirlpot, anyone know about this??

Yes the return line goes through the swirlpot and is swirled down into the tank.
Can't remember the reason why tho.
