Howdy, one of my mates has a VL that he wants to get shift kit for his automatic trans...
Now i was wondering if any1 here has had one put on their car and if they are worth the money?
He wants to know how much they cost and who sells them, as well as if they come in the same stages as other commodore kits...Stage 1 for towing...stage 2 for hard shifts for street and stage 3 which is a fully manualised auto box?
Any help would be great, thanks in advance guys
any trans place should be able to do it for you, and all shift kits are ranked in teh order as stated, i think i can recal a mate getting his calais done for 300 with a full trans service
and for the question is it worth it, o yeh because if your chasing power then the stock box wont hold for long, this will tuffn it up a bit and it will make the box last long because it reduce the chance of sloppy gear changes thus lease wear and tear

Ah ok. See my mate got one in his VR Calais and i told me mate with the VL to go there as well.....but they told him that you cant get a shift kit for a VL. Guy said he has been doing this for 18 years and has never once seen a shift kit for a VL...Yet i know they make them, so I guess i will send my m8 to another transmission place.
I will get the info for ya, from what I've read up on it, its not really worth getting a "shift kit" for the Jatco because the end result isn't as impressive as say a turbo400. But there are other ways around this.
:from calais turbo:
There is no such thing as a shift kit for the Jatco auto.
A trans shop can modify the valve body to provide firmer shifts etc, but this is not a shift kit. The first thing to improve the shift cheaply is to up the pressure in the valve body by changing the main pressure spring.
And I also read somewhere about changing/removing/blocking the overdrive cutoff solenoid. I will hunt for this info later on.
The first mod you should do to any jatco is fitting a transcooler.
mmmm i was gonna get a shift kit but..... if u do get 1 it puts a fair amount of stress on the rest of the drive line, diff, tail shaft etc wont break stuff at first but after a while stuff will start 2 show signs of wearing
thats from my experience so might not b the same as urs
Knowing my mate, if he can chirp second he will.... But thanks for all the info! Whats the difference with the Turbo VL auto to the normal Jatco one?Originally Posted by ucwepn
i know keas do shift kits for jatcos exy tho
I aagree however, if you have the power in your motor, a tuff gearbox that chirps :P, then why wouldnt you spend money on your diff etc?Originally Posted by SUSPECT
Get a VLT diff and all will be sweet.
tis tru but if u dont have plans like putting a turbo on then do it.... like if u have a vlt... then u will do somthing 2 the trans but if its just n/a and u only have minor mods like exhaust, headers then there is no point!Originally Posted by adox
There is always a "point" all the mods add up eventually. The diffs are fairly hardy only thing is might twist the 2 piece tailshaft or drop it. or twist or snap an axel. It depends on the driving style, the tyres, the condition of the driveline and the road at the time. Also depends how hard you want it to shift.
