Default Noise comming from back of car when over 70-80ks

I'm presuming this is the diff on the way out? I'm certainly not very mechanically minded so I'm not sure if it is the diff or not. If it is the diff is it hard to take the diff off and replace it?? For someone who doesn't know much about cars I manage to work out how to do things. In the past week I have taken my stock exhaust off and replaced it with pacemaker extractors and a 2 1/2 inch exhaust system. Will a N/A auto VL diff work in my N/A manual VL?? I have rung wreckers and they only have auto diffs for around $100 and said they don't know if an auto diff will effect my manual gear ratios??

I would appreciate it if someone would help me out abit on whether it is easy enough for me to have a go at replacing it, and whether an auto diff will be fine for my manual vl.

    Thanks in advance

    Josh

auto and manual diff's are the same as far as i'm aware with the n/a 6's, also the auto diff would be a good choice since it's more likely to have had an easier life..........

Ok thats good, atleast I don't have to go searching for a diff from a manual VL. Is it very hard to change the diff???

no, it's not hard at all, get some axle stands to hold the car up with so it's stable and go nuts.

also it'll make life a lot easier if you get a strong mate to help you, it's a prick to do by yourself

talk it over with a diff specialist first

check the oil level in it, remove the rubber filler plug, put in your finger, bend it down and use it as a dipstick wwait a while after driving it or the oil will have air bubbles in it, which expands it
check the breather to make sure it isnt blocked by hardened mud
try using a tap recorder left over the diff on the floor to record the nosie
