An afm is used by the ECU to measure the amount of air going into the engine and uses this measurement to decide what mixyure of air/fuel to run. There is little point in my opinion of running an xf throttlebody with xf intake pipe and using the standard afm, I always heard from people that flow would only be as good as the narrowest section would allow. But its your car, and this is a mod I am keen to do myself if done right.

after market ecu which allow you to run with no afm is the other option,
then just put the throtal body on and have no afm or intake pipe.
