    Default fuel problem

hey ive been having a problem ever since i got my tank changed
it will only let me but about 30L in to the tank thats putting fuel in when the gauge reads empty then it goes up to full for about 50k's then drops to 3/4 then at about 80k's it goes to half then its one empty at 202k's

now ive changed the internal pump and sender and the gauge. still does the same thing but before i changed the tank i was getting 350-450k's per tank so i was wondering if anyone could help me out with this problem

have u supectd the guage in the dash off being faulty,
it could read empty when u really got half a tank left in there, and when u place 30l in it gose 2 full
could be the guage is moving twice as fast as its ment to be so it reads empty when only 30l is used
202ks is half off what u use to get so its proberly just the guage moving quick

readed in someone else post that was the same prob and ppl concluded it was most likly the guage in the dash

I think the car tank holds 12 gallons and the wagon tank holds 16, I wonder if you got the smaller tank?

Have you recently fitted bigger mags? I think thats my problem with mine only getting 250-300k's out of a tank. I thought about it the other day.

Larger wheels=wheels turns less for same distance.

Larger wheels=making my speedo read under the real reading by 5-10 km/h, therefore making my odometer read less than what it should be with 14's or 15's (I have 18's)

Does this sound right? or am I going mad? LOL

Nah that makes sense, 1 less full rotation for the same amound of ground covered. For some reason though, it appears that the difference is rather large.... I mean, what do people ususally get out of a 65L tank? 400 odd kays? 420 maybe? to get to 202km and be empty seems a little scewed...

my tank will only hold around 45-50 litres. mine must be the small tank or something.

Whoa, you got dudded badly, I myself was thinking of going to a VN/VP tank, apparently they are a bit bigger. Currently I got the 65L, I saw some guy here with an 83L tank, won't help economy one bit but you'd get a bit more milage outta it.

    Talking Mileage/Consumption

Well well i have similar prob. Thing is when my guage reads one qtr it really has half a tank. The sender or the resistor in line is probably the culprit. Previous holdens have done similar things. What ends up happnin with my wgn(65ltr tank) is that the first half of the tank walks real quick. When on the edge of the red empty section it actually has about 15 ltrs left.I guess just try to get used of the misreading- but dont entirely trust it in case the sender/resitor gets worse and if poss carry a min. of 5 litres of back up joose. There is no logical reason an empty tank would resist fuel being placed in it Mine uses more fuel than it should but the gaugee things is consistent. Maybe adaptation and preparation can override frustration. Good luck y'all

Yes we are all affected by the classic VL fuel gauge plague.

It is the worst device on this car.

Had the same prob with mine, aswell as the dash lights intermitting. It is either the board on the back of the cluster or the plug that goes into teh back. When mine was playing up i used to wiggle the plug and the dash would be right till i hit a bump, then would stay like that till i done it again. My fuel level would be good then drop straight to empty if i only had half a tank. then up again to half.

Bets on it if you try another cluster in there it will fix ya prob.

Hmmm this cluster problem sounds interesting I am keen to test it on mine but don't want to run out of fuel LOL. would explain why I can only get 45 or so litres in my tank because the guage says empty but there is really 10-15 litres still in there. I swapped my cluster for a calais one a while back. guage seems to rad the same as the last cluster.
