    Default inside rocker cover

i have a rocker cover i'm sending off for either polishing or powder coating. but inside is a metal insert thats welded in, sort of like a windage tray. does anyone know if its normal? also i suppose sanblasting is now out of the question now as sand particles will get stuck in there even after hosing so may get into oil causing dramas, would this be correct?

That metal bit is called a baffle and stops drops of oil getting sucked in..

As 4 sand blasting, clean with comp/air and wash, wash, wash..
I was confused now I'm just not so sure!!

a couple of grains of sand will not kill your engine but you should still clean it all out about 50 times before putting it on the car. There are small metal fragments inside your engine right now floating about until the filter attemps to pick them up.All engines have metal fragments floating around them.

cool cool. i didn't really want the thing polished like everyone else. i though the rocker cover and timing cover powder coated gun metal colour on a black block would look tidy. with a few other bits in chrome and aluminium would look nice.

You can soak it in degreaser, but thats about as far as I'd take it. Paint stripper/ sandblast the top later and away you go.

Post up pics when your done, mine should be done soon.

yeah i don't mind the polished look but i think i'll go with gun metal powder coat with the timing covers the same. it shoiuld look good on a black block.

Yeah just take off your inlet piping, the black plastic piece and disconnect the other bits, there are rubber seals that are under the screws with washers, put them aside. Also a rubber gasket that sits in a channel beneath the cover. Make sure it is still intact and not perished.

Then take off. Easy as really
