hmmmm nething about 180rwkw a mini spool and yea ur basicly done u can do on lower kw but we went drifting at mallala in a r31s/c and it was 5speed, mini spool'd and had hard suspension was ok... but another mate at the same time did it with his calais turbo, 5speed, cut springs, mini spool and about 180rwkw and that was soo good many of the pro's were shocked how good it was!

ne ways many people will go n dissagree with wat ive said but meh, try it and c 4 urself

Definately need an LSD or at minimum a mini spool. Softer suspension with bigger anti roll bars will get the thing to hang out but still sit flat so you don't roll it.

Cut springs are for people with no respect for human life LOL

    Why?

You can make a Commodore drift.

Just to show those ricer boys, that you can drift anything not just AE86s,Silvias,Celsiors and Skylines.

Cut springs have in the past, fallen out of the back of peoples cars when cornering and have been linked to a couple of deaths from major accidents. This one bloke I heard about cut his springs got in an accident and killed someone. He was put up on manslaughter charges and went to gaol, personally I wouldn't be able to sleep at night knowing my car was a danger to myself my family and other people and their families.

I guess you missed the huge debate about 8-10 months ago about this very subject.

I got nothing against drifting. I enjoy watching it on occassion, damn those ae86's are quick through the corners aye

key factor to any good drift car is set-up, regardless of power you have. the old school AE86's an stuff drift really well with stock power but a good set-up.

someone mentioned softer suspension....quite the opposite, you need a stiff/firm suspenion set-up. Commodores dont handle as well as jap cars from stock, thats why there easier and more popular to drift, double wishbone suspension set ups etc etc....but it can be done in anything.

    my suggestions:

    5 speed manual
mini spool the diff (or weld...cheaper)
order superlow springs from someone like king springs but tell them what your using them for and order stiffer than regular low springs.
koni adjustable shocks front & rear
    adjustable panard rod
replace every bush in the car with nolathane/urathane items
    front strut brace
ceramic or brass buttin clutch to put up with the punishment
strip the interior of the car of everything not needed to drive it
good fixed back race type seat
    4 point race harness
fire extinguisher mounted in steel braket nice an close
    some sort of roll cage.....

all depends on how far you really wanna go??
if your just toying with the idea, spool the diff, lower the car professionally (no cut springs & clapped out shockers) and give it a go!

    cheers

I totally agree with you mate, it seems ucwepn doesn't no what he is talking about again ( burnouts). softer suspension will make it handle like more of a piece. One thing ucwepn, and this is not a personal attack on you, jack your car up at one of the jacking points in you car, and see how much more effort it takes to open your oposite door from where the jacking point is. Thats right folks, Vl's and probably everything pre that suffer from very bad chassis flex.

If you are serious about drifting, and dont have a budget in mind, I would seriously think about getting a cage fitted. Otherwise, get some seriously hard suspension sorted, otherwise you are going to be body rolling into those corners, not drifting into those corners.

    My 2c

    I will await the objections.

ya don't need all those things, all ya need is a 5spd manual with power steering, stock worn tyres and a slighty wet road.
    My SL can do it.

oh yer and get full comp insurance while you're at it

Make sure insurance knows that your out racing around a track, because they won't cover you if they find out you were racing/drifting/competing etc.

    BIGGER/THICKER anti roll bars fitted.
Nolathane bushes fitted as well will reduce body roll as someone above said. A rollcage will increase the rigidity of the chassis also.

If the suspension is too stiff it will be too nervous and skittish, you need to retain overall contol of the car for multiple corners, otherwise its just powersliding not drifting.

Yeah check out speedweek on SBS sunday at noon they have allot of drifting sometimes.

You can also download a movie called the "drift bible" which will give some pointers and tell you all about setup's and stuff.
