redback exhaust system???

hey guys, i'm new on this forum and i own a vl commodore, its my 1st car. i just got a new 2.5" cat back, redback exhaust put on it on friday. one of my friends at work also owns a vl, he's got extractors and 2.5" cat back exhaust. anyways to my point. should my car sound any different on idle then the standard exhaust? as it sounds exactly the same as standard, so i was a bit disapointed cause my friends is no where near the same and a fair bit louder also. theres only one muffler in my exhaust and i was wondering if the muffler would be why its so quiet? if so would i be better of taking the car back and getting the muffler changed to make the car a bit louder. also i might be getting extractors soon, what would be best setup for them? thanks for any help. cheers.

It needs to wear in, it will sound different.

Yeah give it some time, couple of months and it'll be burbling at idle. Has your mate got the resonator and muffler fitted? getting rid of either will make the exhaust much louder but removing the resonator will make it loud but hollow sounding. People have been known to remove the rear muffler and just get a pipe welded there instead. Watch out for the jacks and epa if you do this tho.

I've got pacemakers and a 2&1/2 catback as well, mine is the most loud at around 2,200 rpm, lower or higher revs its pretty quiet which is good for me not wanting to attract too much attention.

yah its all depends on the system, no resinator on the rear straght thought muffler or normal, many varibles

ive got un-named brand of extractors, cat bak 2.25 with no rear resinator and a straght though muffler,

sounds nice at idle and i get the deepest growl at about 2250rpm like ucwpon

i think im near the legal loudest db at idle, is there any where i can get it tested or find out??

just ask cops when they pull u over lol my exhasut is 2 and half cat abck with no resie or mufflers just a cannon on the rear and yer it's a little loud and and annoying but getting that changed next week with new exhasut for regency lol

Most good exhaust places can perform the DB test. Just ring around aye.

there's no resinator on my exhaust, just got the centre muffler then 2.5" piping from there with a 3" tip. my friends got a bit of 3" piping in place of the resinator. i've decided to leave the muffler now as i dont want to attract to much attention. thinking of getting some extractors. what kind of gains can be made from extractors on a vl, its non turbo manaul incase i havent said that already. cheers.

the middle muffler is the resonator, the rear is the muffler. A 3 inch pipe welded in to the pipe is called a "hotdog" which is the same as a resonator.
