Default car just dies wen im driving

ok here is the easiest way to explain it.. tonight i went to drive it home after it sitting at my mates for a week coz i work full time and i blew the cam belt in it last week end.. i had my mates step dad (who is a qualified mechanic and owns a porche workshop here in brissy) to help me fix the cam belt and change the seals behind the cam pulley and the crankshaft pulley... hence we had to take out the radiator to get to some of the bolts and we blead the head wen we put the radiator wen we put it back in coz if u dont u end up with a feked head on them coz the air gets hot and it makes the head crack..

it went fine today, but he did say that i may need a new ignition switch soon coz mine is a bit loose and moves arround a lil bit (like 2 or 3mm each way).. it ran fine today wen we finnished putting it all back together and fixed the timing up and wat-have-u..

and then i tried to drive it home tonight and it started but b4 the end of the steet she started to die, like as though i just turned the ignition off or it just had no zap (power, electricity) going to the engine.. then i pulled it over while it was still rolling and waited a min or 2 while i sparked a smoke up and swore at my car a few times (i know it prolly hurt its feelings but i dont care lol jks :P ) .. and then i started it again and it started fine, and then not even 30 meters down the road it stoped again, so i repeated the same thing again and it started, and yet again.. it stoped bout 50 meters down the road.. i gave it a few mins again and started it and let it get a tad warm for say, bout 5 mins and then tried to take off and she died again but this time as it started to die i flanged the accelerator as it was dieing and it kicked in again and started turning over again and i turned arround and headed bak to my mates house and all the way bak she nearly died bout 7 times in a matter of bout 150meters... but each time i managed to save it by just giving it a boot full and letting it off quickly and repeating till it got up and goin again...

why would she be dieing like this? it ran fine b4, and i dont think its the head coz ive been told that in the RB30 engines the pistons dont smash the head wen u do a cam belt..

any one who can help PLEASE let me know?!?! and MANY thanks in advance!!

my car used to just die. was my crank angle sensor. i have been told a faulty air flow meter can make the car do a similar thing.

    good luck with it mate

i would say its the crank angle sensor as its a big problem on vls and thats what it does.
check the plug for the sensor and if its broken it could just be that and its not getting a good conection if the plug is fine then try changing the cas or just get a hole dizzy and change it all.
    good luck with fixin it

My car sort of died the same way last night it was electrically dead, I got to the lights after driving fine for around 20 mins then it just cut out and there was no power to restart or even put the hazards on. It started around 2 mins before with the headunit cutting in and out and trying to turn itself on but not seeming to have enough current. RACV got called and I explained to the bloke what had happened and he was looking at me like I was lying LOL but beleived me in the end. The alternator tested fine as did the battery. I got a jump start and it has been fine since. A similar thing happened 2 weeks ago when I got my brakes done, the battery went flat in the workshop after only 4 hours and the car was off, everything was off so I can't understand wtf is doing this. Could it be the battery? or another more sinister gremlin?

    sorry to hijack

Had similar problem, but for 2 different reasons..........

    1. was crank angle sensor-enough said !

    2. moisture - VL dizzys are about as water proof as the Titanic.
new radiator was fitted, and a light splash of water went on the dizzy.....car started fine.....15m down the road, cough splutter die. Start car, same again....... This happened 7 times, and a friend came to visit, and told me about his old VL doing the same thing.....he then removed the dizzy cap, and pionted to the few drops of water. On ignition, the water heats rapidly....causing steam. Its the steam that screws with the firing in the dizzy. 4 DROPS OF WATER CAUSED 45MINS OF HELL !!!
