R31 Syline LSD....

a mate at work is going to buy a skyline of his mate for its lsd, which was rebuilt i think
he has offered me his lsd out of his shilloutte
i was wondering do i have to change the axels to 28spline axels as the skyline lsd has 28 splines stock? will skyline axels fit in the vl rear axels housing?
is the skyline diff ratio 3.7 or 3.9 stock?
and will the lsd centre bolt straght int eh vl diff housing?

sozz for all the questions but i wanna not miss out on this good opitunity if it can happen and is a fair price.

i doubt the centre will fit in as the commie has a borg warner. i may be wrong. also i highly doubt the axles will fit.

skylines have a 25 spline 2 pinion center wich can be used in a vl commodore providing its a 25 spline center but the turbo diffs were a 28 spline 4 pinion center.

the axles wont fit but you can take the gears off the skyline diff and put them on your center

providing its the 9 bolt m78 borgwarner diff then you can do the above if it is not then none of the above apply

yah i am a bit stumped. a pintara centre fits into the skyline diff, and a pintara centre can fit in a vl so i dont see why the skyline centre wouldnt, as it must have the same set up as the vl to allow the pinii to fit in...

o i tryed a search but could find anything too

keep in mind if you want to use the center or gears then you will need to use the matching pinion aswell

A pintara has 25 spline axles whereas a Skyline has 28 Spline axle so they are a little stronger.

found this on Skyline Australia, so thats where i got the idea of them being 28 spline
but it also says this

i thought the skyline diff was either 3.7 or 3.9 so this might mean that first state ment is wrong and the person has the facts all wrong.

and HDT_aero i want the whole LSD as im curntly using the stock 3:45 open wheeler :S, so basically i was wondering if it would fit (the centre)

all skylines are 4 pinion with 28spline axles, but only the silhoutte and GTS models were LSD from factory. (just rember its only the manual that had 3.7:1 auto models were 3.91:1)

well that is off calaisturbo, bit more confussing now

skylines have 3.73 and 3.89 ratio's and only the upper modles have 28 spline centers i have a 25 spline skyline center sitting in my garage wich i used for the 3.89 gearset in my vn 28 spline diff

if you have a 25 spline center and the skyline is a 25 spline center then you can use it but you will have to set the mesh, lash and preloads correctly

same goes if they are both 28 spline you only cant use the skyline center if if has a different spline count as your axles wont fit in the center and the skyline has different lengh axles

i dont have a clue, everything ive found says there 28spline, but hoping us are right with it being 25 as i might have a lsd lined up then
