    Default Breather Hose

    Hay guys,

Just a quick question, was wondering if theres anyother ways of setting up the breather hose (the one that goes from the air inlet pipe to the rocker cover)

I only ask because i'm running duel fuel (lpg & petrol) and i guess the lpg shouldn't be going into the engine - i found this thread on CT also...

I've seen cars that have what look like mini pod filters sticking out of the rocker cover where the breather hose should be - any thoughts on using one of those???

    Chears dudes

Refer the diagram. Blue lines are fresh air, red lines are oil vapour. You can see how the PCV (Positive Crankcase Ventilation) system works. The PCV (coloured purple) valve regulates the flow of air through the system. It basically ventilates the crankcase by sucking air (vac from the plenum) through it.

The catch can system (which the guy in that CT thread was actually asking about) is used on high performance cars, as oil vapour lowers the effective octane rating of the mixture. In some states using it on the street in this type of car is illegal, because the PCV system is part of the emmission control system, preventing hydrocarbons being discharged to atmosphere. However it can be done, by venting both holes in the rocker cover to a small tank. Be sure to let the tank breathe. Also be sure to block up the open holes left in the plenum and duct - you may as well remove the PCV valve in this case.

The system also draws out blow by gas from the combustion chamber, especially in worn engines.

But back to your question: I can see no reason why a properly setup LPG system should need a different PCV setup. I could be wrong, I don't have alot of experience with LPG.

    Hope this helps.

    Mike.

when i say lpg going into the engine - i don't mean in the combustion chamber - i mean in the crank case though the breather hole - sorry if i didn't explain it well

I think the catch can idea sounds like a go, just have to avoid the boys i blue i guess... atleast in wa we don't have the epa, i hear these blokes are very friendly
