Hey guys, just wondering what I can get for my VL...
I got an SL '87 VL Commodore... I got a pod, extractors and 3" from the cat... Wondering what stuff I can get for my car to increase performance?
Is it possible to get CAI with a pod? Is there anyway I can make my own CAI? Also is it possible to have a pod, and cold air induction pipes??
Also to avoid creating another topic, is it worth it getting a performance chip?
There is a fair bit that can be done before forced induction.
Pod filter (either ITG or K&N).
Cold Air Intake (CAI).
Advance the cam (Between 8-15 degrees).
Advanced the cam gear one tooth (Holden retarded it one tooth from Nissan stock standard).
Advance ignition timing.
Port grinding.
Full engine balancing & Blueprinting.
Hotter cam with more lift.
Aggresive cam gearing.
Bigger fuel pump with higher capacity fuel lines.
Hyclones (two or more, divisive subject in regards to effectiveness).
You can even apply an RB25 head to the RB30 bottom end and gain the use of VVTI, 24 valves and twin overhead cames, however, this is rather expensive from what I gather....
yeah its a bloody big job to fit one of the twin cam heads because they use coil packs not a distributor, so you will need to make a loom and a module to tell them when to fire that talks to the ecu. bloody hard job, not for someone to try and do in their garage.
yes you can run some sort of cold air induction, most people cut a hole under where the air box sits and run a pipe down to the front bumper. i'd say that would be illegal but probably the best way.
make up a heat shield to go around the pod so its now sucking up the hot air that comes through the radiator.
no point gettign a bigger fuel pump because the standard one will be more then enough untill you start makign alot of power.
the XF throttle body is known to be a good one, i have fitted one but motor is not back in the car yet, its a day job but it should be good.
the 3 inch exhaust from the cat back would be more suited to a turbo motor, its actually bad for you to have that fitted to your car, you loose alot of back pressure, and low down torque.
an easy way to get a 2.5" exhaust, there are probably people on this form or calaisturbo.com who have upgraded to a turbo and need an exhause because they are still using their old 2.5", they would gladly swap with you and possibly with a bit of money too.
look into that mate
my web sitestuff on the XF throttle body conversion, calais interior and lots of other junk!
yeah get rid of the 3" you might actually even be able to sell it and have a bit of cash left on top after buying a 2.5" like stewart1000 said
