vacuum hose check valve location

according to elleries manual, a frequent cause of air cond and heater problems is the check valve in the vacuum hose between the intake manifold and the vacuum tank behind the front bumper

Ive found both ends of the rubber vacuum hose, but its very cramped, where is the check valve, if there is one, and what does it look like please

It would be a small inline cylinder, 1 end is normally a differant colour..
