hey guys can anyone tell me some cheap easy ways to get more power out of my stock vl rb30 help
Well I don't know much about this type of stuff but I guess you could get some pacemaker extractors. Not exactly sure on cost though but I think over 400.
In combination with a good exhaust system that should give you a few more kW. You should get a good exhaust and good extractors fitted for just under $1000.
yep a agree.
extracters give you 10% more power, as ive heard from people.
Common things that are done for NA vls
- extractors, high flow cat, cat back system
- CAI if wanting to cut a hole
- K&N filter for CAI
- bigger leads
- advance timing
- XF falcon throttle
then you can turbo, supercharge or open it up and place like cam, head work and other stuff
just depends on budget
just remba with power you need stoping power, and the abilty to place it down to the floor so dont over look suspension and brakes as they are just as important if not more then going quicker

Yeh Ive Got A 2 And A Half Inch Exhaust Exhaust From The Cat Back Already
...Then extractors would be the logical next step. Then make your own CAI with a POD.
don't put a pod in. they suck more hot air then cold.
where would you put the pod? the only place is in the wheel arch and they get covered in sh#t. just use a k&n panel filter in the original air box and run tubing somewhere. or put a hole in the bottom of the box through to the wheel arch.
I have a pod, but also have a stainless surround made for it.
well if you do go the pod route then get a Drift one, not k&n, as they get the best air flow.
lol woow that .1 of a kw makes all the difference ey,![]()
Ok I Will Try That
Wow these tips are also helping me I've got a stock standard RB30E and I was planing on getting extractors and an exhaust. Do you need a larger exhaust before getting extractors?
Gavin_LP
don't know what everone else thinks but i just took my 2.5" catback off and put the stock system back on (i've got 6-3-1 HM stainless headers still on) and i can't notice the power loss at all, its just quieter. i got the catback for $80 second hand and now its on our other vl, but just a thought for those who are planning on exhausts for power gains, they don't really make a difference i don't reckon.
i reckon just advance the timing, cut a bigger hole in the front of the airbox (or CAI if you want), and some top gun max leads. total cost $50, how cheap is that. K&N filters don't do anything really either so there's another $100 to save.
Yeah rb30's love to breathe well and seeing as its the first model to have it fitted I am positive they would have gotten more power out of it for the next model if they went through with using it like they planned too. So it shouldn't be too hard to get the 140fwkw that the R31 gts has, just bolt ons should see you hit the 150 fwkw that the turbo model has, but any more than that will require $$$$ and its just not worth it. Mine has pacemakers, 2&1/2 catback with stock cat, resonator and muffler fitted. As well as a high flow panel filter. It gets along quite well ATM but am hungry for more KW which is I guess normal as you become accustommed to the power level and it gets boring LOL. Just extractors will make a slight difference (low to mid range), Fitting an exhaust and extractors will rob the guts from the low to mid end and give more high revving power.
does anyone know what to expect power wise, if you did all as in post #4?
just go turbo
well i think all power is to be made in the intake side of things.
get an XF throttle body, bigger air ducting, fit a catch can to keep your nice new air ducting clean.
i figure the problem layes with the small size of the AFM, there has to be a way to make it bigger.
ill chop into my oil one this weekend and see what i can do with it.
get a good tune, run the afm output at 2.1v and that'll be good.
and with this new air intake you want to maximize the effect with a good air cleaner and colder air, i would think cutting a hole under the airbox would not be in favour of the law, possibly run a pipe out the motor side of the box and down to the bumper, dont forget to put an air hole in it, to let water escape, might want to put a shamfer on the hole to stop the air making a whistling sound when goign through it, i havent actually dont it but i imagine it would make a sound, maybe a good one...
edit:
nice engine bay mate, from what you can see it looks pretty special
my web sitestuff on the XF throttle body conversion, calais interior and lots of other junk!

Air Flow Meter. that thing with the plug & wires just behind your air filter box
