Hey there everyone, has anyone done a cold air intake without cutting a hole in below the airbox...?
I was given some intercooler piping from a gts-x skyline it is about 1 and 3/4 inch inside diameter. would this be big enough for a cold air intake?
Any help will be greatly appreciated.....cheers

I'm also in the same boat with not wanting to cut the body but still wanting a CAI I have had a good poke around the airbox area and there isn't allot of room there to run hoses/pipes etc. You need it to be at least 2&1/4 inch's minimum otherwise I believe it would start to become restrictive. I was thinking a walkinshaw kind of setup with cold air being fed through a bonnet scoop somehow in front of the airbox with the front hole on the box cut so it is the whole length of the box ( I have cut my box and am trying a temporary kind of thing to see how it goes, using the rubber part of the original intake pipe and the factory snorkel both shoved in next to each other. kinda works well for me because I don't have the bumper moulds fitted to my car ATM but they are being painted for me this week so its gonna be back to the drawing board LOL)
P.S. finished tidying up my bay a bit, stay tuned for pics.
Hey there ucwepn, thanx for the reply.... I have made the pipes fit into the bottom part of the airbox I made a plate up for the front opening and ran a 90 degree bend then down 90 degrees then along to the left hand side of the bumper all bends are mandrel so should work ok but will let you know when i finish work as to how it all goes......cheers

y dont u want to cut through under the air box??
hey guys the only way to do it without cutting a hole is the way i done it ages ago and thats to go down between engine and radiator, it didnt work real well because the heat from the radiator, i used 3in pvc pipeing and had to remove the black plastic under the front of the car
P.S kev go on msn!
Going where no late model stato/caprice has gone before.... GAME ON!!

edit: here is my bay atm. starting to get prettier LOL next thing is the rocker cover.

yeah cutting a hole is dodgey as...ucwepn just curious mate what mods do you have exactly to get that power figure. i'm guessing cam, extractors, exhaust, what else?
i know in vr onwards you can cut into the side of teh air box and have a pvc pipe run to bellow the radiator to work, but not sure if it would work,
was thinking about the hole under the air box, do you reckon if you were to use metal tube and weld it into the panel you would get away with it as it would not be disturbing the struual integraty, or very little
looking very nice there ucwepn,
if you read snake only bolt ons (unopened) so no cam, just zorst intake and some ingtion i think i rember, was listed in another thread

yeah i'd be tempted to run some pvc piping out the side and down to the front bumper, and maybe put a bit of a heatshield around it... but if your gogin to be doint that, i'd do the piping from airbox to tbody, maybe from a VN?
my web sitestuff on the XF throttle body conversion, calais interior and lots of other junk!
well ive had the cops go over my car and it sint a problem when it goes for pink slip and it still handel fine in terms of structure. a car isnt original as soon as u replace worn tires.
Now rolling on 19's
No ignition mods just paceys + 2&1/2 catback with resonator and muffler fitted, Hi flow panel, rear mesh removed from afm and it was on crappy regular unleaded that was a month old at least (car was having a mystery issue and was off the road).
The run was done with 2 sparkplugs playing up and the original intake pipe setup. Have since changed all plugs and leads and have the custom intake pipe so I expect the figure to be closer to 110rwkw minimum. My transmission slips pretty bad now (I have given it a hard time and it has around 35rwkw extra than stock so I expect its demise soon enough) Am hoping to get upgraded aftermarket bands and a modified valve body soon. that should put slightly more power to the ground and I will be happy with that for now.
I will get a pic of the dyno sheet before the weekend hopefully.
I am stoked with how it goes and some days it still surprises me with a hard burst of grunt before it starts to slip.![]()
