air intake and hydraulic lock risk

the standard rb30 air intake is down low with the risk of sucking in water when crossing a creek and a hydraulic lock with serious engine damage
if planning a cold air intake, dont make it any lower, but higher if you can
with the standard air cleaner, some say removing the front snorkel bit improves the air intake, mine fell off

but that also beggs the question, should we really be crossing deep creeks in vl to start with?
