though i would let you all in a little intressing fact/s i learned from a mate at work today.
he is nissian and dato fenatic and has owned many cars of these brands, i was talking about his series 3 (1989) R31 skyline that he owns,
i asked about how thirsty it was and he stated it was quite good getting, wait for it......1200km per tank :my: i then asked the tank size and he said standerd 60ltr.
my jaw droped when he said it was common for series 3 to get that millage a tank, so i asked more questions out of quirosty and he said the vl is equverlate to a series 1 skyline they avg 700-800 km a tank (this is all urban driving) when in good condion.
i was confussed, i was lead to belevie that all the rb30 motor were the same in vl and skylines range execept the gts. he explained that the vl (series 1 skyline) rb30's have a mechanical manifold aided fuel injection where the series 3 were almost total electroically controled injection with little aided from vacuam in the injection thus why it was capperable of the 1200km a tank,
has anyone else heard of this? as if this it true dam we holden fans got let down double time, first losing the possiblity of having a motor capperble of doing 1200km a tank then and also being a good motor then second the introduction of the vn range(jkz)

If it got 1200km to the tank, dont you think that it would have been noted as one of its selling points? 5 litres per 100km!!!!!!!!
I think your mate is stirring you up.
hahaha
i got 1000k's less that that on a full tank a few weeks back
Also the part about the mechanical manifold aided fuel injection has me buggered what he is talking about.
It is Multipoint EFI.
Next he will be telling you that it also has a Flux Capacitor.
Oh but it does, but he doesn't need any radioactive material to run his.
What the hell is he on? 1200 per tank. My mate in his pintara, same shape as his 31 rb20det, is pulling about 600 to a tank from what I can gather, but then again it eats about 70L when he fills it. Fairly sure it took 70L
"Fuel Consumption
For a series 1 auto sedan: 12 litres/100km in the city and 8.5 litre/100km on the highway. With series 3 and manual versions expect slightly better economy. "

I used to average 750km in my Series III Skyline. I believe it had a 70 litre tank. Best ever was 920km on a long country trip.
Two Pintaras we owned both used more fuel.

hey guys, i have both S1 and S3, and the S3 has better fuel economy. But the S1 feels like it has more power (This might be just me!)
oh my, i average about 350kms.....
i am buying a VL![]()
![]()
rofl at " jesus juice" never heard that 1 mate, and 1200km to a tank is a phark load, doubting it already
Nate
baha i have a S3 R31 skyline and if i baby it ill get bout 550km to a tank, thrash it prolly 400-450km.... all of the RB30s from S1 through to S3 are identical...
does anyone know what an auto should do on a long trip in miles per gallon?
the redesigned nose on the VL was checked in the GM windtunnel and found much more slippery than the old nose, by the way
Hows this 130km and 23.20lts to do it
17.85 lts per 100 km or 16.0 mpg

I was confused now I'm just not so sure!!
RIP Peter (perfect) Brock....
14.1km per litre = 7.09 litres per 100km or just on 40mpg
11.89km per litre = 8.41 litres per 100km or 33.7mpg
7.04 km per litre = 14.2 litres per 100km or 20mpg
In Australia our gallon is 4.54609 litres, US gallon is 3.785 litres.
33.7mpg would be correct if the US gallon was used.

all much better than my old HR powerglide that did 22 mpg at best on a long trip, and it was a good and dirty 3 litre 186
BTW the RB 30 is supposed to be very smooth, but underway, my old 186 in the HR seemed as smooth
i get 100kms out of my vl driving like a granny (yes a full tank), there is many things wrong with it![]()
