I now have a problem with a big cloud of exhaust smoke, blue grey, when starting up and giving engine a rev
doesnt seem to smoke otherwise
the sump oil level was a bit high so I lowered it
I replaced the PCV valve aned checked that the connecting hose wasnt blocked but I still have the problem
the engine doesnt seem to be using oil
any suggestions?
are these seals made of metal or something else?
might some engine leak stopper additive have an effect
theres a big amount of smoke, but only on or shortly after starting up, sometimes happens while driving off
The valve stem seals are rubber, you need to dismantle the head generally to replace them, but u can get a small spring compresser that when used in conjunction with an air compresser you can replace them with the head still bolted on, could even be the stem guides are worn and allowing the oil to run past and into the combustion chamber, a stop leak formula won't generally stop it due to the fact that it is caused by the oil running down the stem once the motor is shut of
yea sounds like valve stem seals, its probably better to take heads off (if you can and have the money) and replace head gaskets as well, a gasket kit doesn't cost that much, and piece of mind is good too![]()
thanks, I guess the oil is leaking into the cylinders after shutdown as this would explain the big cloud on starting as its burnt off
