there has beena vl calais that is near my house i have been eyeing it off for the past 6 or so years and today i decided to nock on the door and ask
someone awnserd the door and i introduced my self and how i was intrested in his calais.
he said he is willing to sell it and asked what price i was willing, i did not say any price to him but asked what he was wanting ruffly in which he could not reply or set one, his missues apparntly drives it and hes just only got it back on the road
it neededs a bit of work and has huge rust in the boot lid (replace) little around the rubber, not much in the rear window, far bit on the front window (same as mine),clean interior (blue) apparntly all electrics work + cruse but did not try and a general bit of TLC on the out side
the engine is a 6 and is on gas but if i get it, ill will be droping the 6 for a v8efi.
the motor is dirty as and there was not watter in the radiator and apaprntly a gas problem had happened before.
so just a ruff guess at a price you would say?? im thinking around the 800 mark. as ive been offerd a vl ex running for that price and this is not running or going to i beleive and needs rust cutting out

Hey Sean, Sounds like ur spot on there.
No water Hmm because of gas, don't know about that. I know the gas mixer has to have hot water going to it or it'll freeze up so maybe the hose leaks or the mixer is rotted out and leaking water..![]()

the vl calais sounds like a shiitter, i wouldnt touch it unless you are willing to spend the $$$ properly fixing it up. you will probably find more problems with it once u go over it. sounds like its better for parts, i would wait and save more cash and find a better calais. sounds like your wallet will take a hammering tho if u do get it. but its always up to you...
btw what colour is the paint??
it is white over silver,
all the interor is fine its just rust which is the problem, the car is straight and no dents
i was planing to either buy a car too strip, cut rust out and weld new metal in and respray or buy a daily and do it to my car(same issue).
im not overly fased about the motor and trans as that will be replaced with an efi304 and most likly a supra 5spd or a alternative 5spd
as i said the only most harsh rust is on the boot lid its self, which i will replace with a better one. the rust around the windows is genrally better then mine and less extencive
as for wallet taking the beating, it wont be that harsh. ill be doing all the work and getting it painted at work by a collague for almost nothing ( 2 cartons or so)
if worst come to worse i will just us all the calais part and do the berlina over, so really its a win win situation i see get all the parts in one hit possibly cheap or souce them all sepratly and cost more also the fact of doing up a genuine calais (which i preffer) or do up the berlina (mock calais spec)

don't do it so i can buy it...lol. i reckon go for it. worst case scenario is you have a full set of calais parts you could use on the berlina or flog off and get your money back then some. just have a look on ebay, people are paying heaps for that stuff
yah thats what i was thinking as a back up. but if i get it most likly i will rebuild it all.
first thing to palm off would be a genuine calais tail light garnish as i will have two
edit: also i rember it has a MOMO steering wheel so that will be legal![]()

hey sounds ok if your willing to do the work... it is a genuine calais after all 800 is pretty dam good i sold my vl calais for 1800 for an auto 6 not too bad but it had FA rust

for $800 you can't really go wrong even if you keep the front clip and interior and any other bits you want to keep and flog the strips and moulds and the rest of it you would come close to getting the money back. Also I thought the Calais bootlid was different to the rest of the range due to the lock being in a different spot (correct me if I'm wrong tho). I reckon go for it but don't spend more than $1k on it.
yah 800 is what im thinking of offering, but i was more asking what people would offer. just to give me a idea
as for the boot lid the only diffrence i beleive is the garnish on it has holes to locate and the lock is the same spot, dont quate me on it though

well considering ive seen the front eyelids go for 800 im not surprised they said no lol.....
interior would go for around 500-700 depending on the nic....

yah he was wanting/willing to get rid of it but he had to ask the missues as she uses it occasinally, and she said nope.
the rust was very bad on the boot lid, never seen anything like it. the rust had come up under and straight though the paint on both sides, i was suprised at it.

800 dollar offer?? if he sells it to you that's a bargain, even though its on gas. You could strip it down and make a fair profit...everyones looking for calais parts. Normal rb30 petrol calais are going for $4500 if you can pick one up cheaper ur doing alright for yourself...cheapest genuine vl calais turbo i seen is $5600.
