VL for free.

hello everyone..
This is how it goes... a guy i work with has this vl sitting at his house and has done for quite some time.. he said i can take it..but as his story goes some dumb-arse apparently put diesel oil in the engine and it "clogged it". As a result it apparently hasn't run since. Does anyone know if there is likelly to be serious damage due to obviously incorrect diesel oil being added? Does anyone think it could be simply fixed by draining the oil and giving it a _good flush out_ followed by a top up of regular oil and a little tlc? If that is a possibility i may put the car on a trailor and give it a go, however if the chances are the engine is screwed i would rather not waste my time.. any help highly appreciated, thanks in advance

i work as a diesel mechanic and i used to use the truck oil in my old vl and it never harmed it...

hmm, thanks for the reply. if this is the case maybe i should stay clear of the broken down heap of.. what are the physical differences between desiel oil and regular oil? is it just consistancy?

diesel oil has more detergant in it to keep the engine clean because without it diesel oil burns dirtyier... its fine to put in cars but if you car is a nice modded car then you might wanna get decent oil, but if its just a daily then theres no harm

yeah diesel oil is fine to put in your car. i know several people that prefer it as it keeps the engine clean. you say the engine got clogged but it should be the opposite. all i can think is that the detergents in the oil dislodged some **** and it blocked an oil gallery probably to a big-end bearing.

ps. don't use normal car oil in a diesel, only vice versa.

haha yeh true bangers...the way i saw it if they use it in 40,000 dollar engines then its good enough for my rb30

IS the body in good nic? At the price of VL's these days, if worst got to the worst, I doubt it would cost a lot to get a secondhand engine put in. Thats fi you can get the car for free.

rb30's are 225-250$ from wreckers... or get the car for free and wreck it urself to make some money

Yeah dude free VL, i would take it anyway. Worst comes to worse and the engine is rooted, and you dont wanna put new engine in, you could sell it as a whole or wreck it for parts and make a bit of cash.

Just Maybe he is confused and actually put diesel fuel in it!! this would stop it from running for sure!! with a tank cleanout, fuel replacement and an injector clean I'm sure if it was the fuel it will be as good as the day it happened!!

thats unlikely because the diesel fuel pump nozels are larger and will not fit in a vl's petty filler... unless they done it at home with a funnel or something

Just stick a hose in there and take the sump plug out.

Down here in Vic most diesel pumps have big warnings and i think locking toungues that need to be pressed down before the nozzle will come away from the pump so you'd have to be pretty out of it to go through all that trouble
