there is no off the shelf CAI for the vl like the model from vn onwards.
this is because the nose cone on the vl covers the bonnets front and disalows air to flow in under the bonnets nose like the vn onwards,
there is the pvc pipe trick under the guard which is illegal as you have to cut the guard but it causes a ram effect as it pops straight up into the air box.

i have this intake set up on mine with a k&n panel filter, the mouth of the box cut open wider and the mesh on the air flow meter removed and a custom pipe i made out of 2.5 inch exhasut pipe between the throttle and air flow meter,
might not be a huge power gain but its better then nothing. and with the exhaust it and other stuff it will make a defent improvement

heres a pic of my engine bay so you can see what i mean by pipe, was dirt then cleaned it all now

so is there any other option like a pod filter instead of cuting the body im awear that a pod sucks the hot air from under hood so its not a dense as the cool air

only real gain that is avalible from a pod is if you build a heat sheid all the way around it, with its picking up from behind the headlight

the front snorkel fell off my filter box making the intake larger, which may help perhaps

any air intake from under the mudguard risks severe enine damage from hydraulic lock if crossing a creek and sucking in water

who the hell crosses a creek in a VL? If you cross a creek then you're just as likely to suck water in with a standard airbox setup too. IMO don't cross creeks in a VL.

A lift kit and some chunky tyres should help that.

    Just don't turn sharply.

love that heat shielded pod for MORE POWER! and no defect and any body crossing a river/creek in a vl deserves what will happen leave that to morons and higher vehicles.

Snorkel and AFM screens off = 32% off intake air restriction

Last weekend i put a Pod filter on mine and also put in a quick heat shield (screwed an old heat shield from the exhaust so that when the bonnet goes down the pod is shielded from the heat from the engine compartment as well as a bought one (well, i think so)

Instantly i noticed throttle responsiveness went up all the way through the range. This is probabaly due to the old filter having a date of 99 on it and it being almost black when i took it out.

If they open my bonnet, the last thing they will be worried about is the pod filter..lol

I've noticed that there are numerous members who comment on the major increases in power/throttle responsiveness post the introduction of a CAI. This may be true to some extent....but to be honest I think a large part of it is psychological!
After doing mine, the greatest benefit i have found is the fuel economy. Instead of my maximum 330km per tank, I'm getting an easy 450km off a tank.
In this day and age, thats not to be sneezed at

One way to test would be to line up an N/A with CAI done and one without and see how they go

Just looks real neat. Unfortunately, I inherited my ride in a rather sad state..

I was looking in the engine bay yesterday considering my options for getting colder air into the engine.

Looking at it, there is a gap between the radiator shroud and the front of the block. Now, theoretically, could not a pipe be run through that gao and then out a hole cut in the plastic lower air "ram", a slight turn at the end exiting in a flat but long fitting that is no deaper than the air ram itself. then cutting a corresponding chunk from the front of the ram, so that air rushing underneath the car is directed towards the intake???

It could, but you would need something that has good heat resistance, because the fan will be drawing heat from the radiator towards the motor, which would heat your pipe.

I was thinking about that after i posted, i want to do a throught the guard CAI, but dont want all the hassle that might come from doing it, could it possibly void insurance?

Ive got my PVC pipe running under the air box to the front bar with a wide mouth on the end and some thin stainless mesh over it so no leaves get in.
