when I turn my AC unit on the AC belt screeches, sparks and smoke comes out of the front of the compressor
How much are these things to replace can you get exchange units?

new units are anywhere from $350 upwards, and you will also have to regas the system.
You could try a second hand one but its a gamble could end up with same problem, unless you get one off a running car where the aircond is charged and functioning.
