someone mentioned a speed sensor driven from the speedo
does this mean the car wont run if the speedo stops?

Well, my car has no dash in it at the moment and starts and goes ok...does that help?

If its an auto it will go up through the gears fine without it but will not kick down at all even if you select a lower gear manually. If the speedometer stops working it shouldn't affect the sensor which is driven from the gearbox via cable unless the cable is broken or the gear worn
