Default More problems - Missing and dying

My RB30 is now missing and on occasion it's dying all together, only to start seconds later. It was suggested that the crank angle sensor was gone, but i got another and same problem. The dizzy is clean inside and I would have thought that if it were plugs or leads, it'd be bad under heavy acceleration. I've checked everything I can think of but no result. It doesn't matter if cruising, idling or accelerating hard, it just comes and goes when it likes.

    Any ideas.

Check that you AFM is sealed. Tighten the clamps and wobble the sensor to see if the idle changes. An air leak around that can cause similar symptoms.

The CAS is second had but I have it on good authority that it's only done about 2 or 3000 k's. It looks like it too.

well i had a big problem like this and with help from other members and especially Mark (Mag)

my was missfireing, nothing serious just enoughing to tick me off.
i changed everything before the CAS. as i didnt want it be that.
all the sensors i changed, my AFM, timing, computer checks, combustion mix tester, fuel leaks, injectors, new dissy cap and rotary arm, diffrent leads, fitted a high flow cataliconvertor and it still did it.

i was avoiding the CAS as it was quite expensive to get it done when i was a student at school and not working much. i went to the wreakers and forked out 88 bucks for a second hand dissy with a 3 month warrenty and it was all fixed. that was 6 months or so ago and not a problem since

so dont be so sure its not the CAS, its quite common, if your not sure get a mate with a vl or a second hand one and swap it, if it works it was your CAS shat its self

if yah need any more help just yell out and surely we can help yah.

also-if you try a second hand dissy or a mates one make sure you get teh engine to TDC, if you dont its a bit of a head problem and can cause a little bit of damage potetially

    G'day All,

Appreciate this is a Commodore forum, but i'm sure you'll have empathy with me. I have a '92 RB30 Nissan Patrol and have experienced these problems twice.......9 years apart!!

First time was when I picked up a tank of cheap 'Gull' fuel in Sydney 2001about the time that cheap & nasty servos were spiking fuel with ethanol. The car ran like a bag of shite for days on end. It would run fine for a few minutes into a trip then it would start spluttering and bogging down and then would cut out completely everytime I lost revs via changing down for traffic lights and corners etc. Would start again instantly but splutter along again under load.

Went to one mechanic and did all the carby kit, CAS, fuel pump, fuel filter, fuel hoses all at $680 charge only to have car run like crap.

Went to another mechanic on a hunch and desire for second opinion. He checked it out for me and first thing he did was drain the tank.....topped it up with 98% premo unleaded and problem vanished after about 10kms.

Felt like suing or petrol bombing the first mechanic, but was just glad the car was back to normal.

Well surprise, surprise, I mistakenly filled up with E10 unleaded last week (brain fade is only explanation as I've been off the whoopie weed for 26 yrs) and all those bad memories came right back about 10kms into the full tank of E10. After twigging onto what had happened half way between Hervey Bay and Tin Can Bay (about 40 litres into the tank), I topped it up with premo unleaded and now two days later the 98% P/ULP has proportionally negated the E10, the car runs as sweet as.

Whatever you do, don't use the E10 or cheap crap supermarket fuel in the RB30.

    Cheers,

    Ian.

    what a thread dig!
the vl is fuel injected not carby like the patrol, I don't know if that makes a difference.
I have used e10 in my vl for a straight 6mth period and had NO ill effects from it at all and I believe there are several other members here that also use it.

I do agree with you about the cheap crap supermarket fuel thou.
Nobody wants to play with me
