    Default 9 inch diffs?

I am gonna stroke my motor out to a 355 (its a 308) mates have told me that I should look at replacing the diff to a 9 inch and possibly changing the tail shaft.

Where in Sydney are there places that I can get these parts? Also, should I be installing a shift kit (stock auto gearbox). Are these bits available second hand anywhere?

As always guys, any help is very much appreciated.

stick with the borgwarner and if you need more strength just get some 35 spline billets

if you already have a V8 then just stick with the diff you have. i hear the standard tailshaft is plenty strong enough too. you shouldn't have to change anything if you're only going to 355.

Really? Then that is a bonus, Do you reckon the auto box is strong enough? (Sorry for all the questions!) Another bloke keeps telling me to instal a shift kit. I thought that this may put extra stress on the diff?

if you constantly churp 2nd it will place extra strane on the uni joints of the shaft and bushes in the rear end.
a shift kit is a good idea as it will reduce the sloppy shifts your gear box will do and prolong its life a bit (depending on driving styles)

how about giving a ruff idea at what power your aiming for and it will help decide on what else your need/want to do.
are you just stroking it or total rebuild with extras????

Gday mate, well I am not sure what sort of power ill be gettting but I have gotten the block all cleaned up and oversized by 30 thou, the heads have been shaved, crack tested and pressure tested etc, new valves put in. I'm gonna use flat top pistons for better compression and as i said a stroker kit, also a torker manifold, stage 4 cam and 600 holley with vac secs.

    So what do ya reckon?

Hopefully its a good street car!

a shift kit would help gear changes. depending on how you plan to drive it as to what stage shift kit you'll need. i still think you won't need to change the tailshaft and rear end, i know guys who have built tougher cars than that and kept the original rear end in (was a vn but pretty much same rear end). you could go a 9" but they are a heavier diff and will take a little more power to turn. leave it as is i say and if you spit it then replace it.

Yea, its gonna be a beast m8. You may want to be putting a 9" in the thing. Especially with those mods you have listed. The kinda torque you will putting through the driveline CAN AND WILL break your tailshaft and or just obliterate your rearend completly. If you got the money I would say you should put in a 4 link 9" weld in setup, or get a detroit locker diff for it. Also the Uni joints will be under heaps of stress. But if you take it easy and dont try to launch it all the time then the driveline should be ok for now....

go with billet axles if you want to run alot of power.... i had them installed when i put my new diff in cos the have a habit of bending, they aren't all that expensive either but if you want to build a strong diff then you have to spend the money, simple as that
