First off I am not going to turbo my car seeing as i have a S1 block. But otherwise, I am just not a fan of turbos, they go hard, so do charged and blown VL's but I just want to stay away from forced induction. So that ebing said. With a S1 motor with 8mm eagle leads, Pacemaker extractors, 2 1/2 system, boxed pod filter. So what kind of Cam and or pistons would you recomend. I have done absolutley nothing to the engine internals. Fuel really isnt a concern of mine. Just something to put out some more grunt that doesnt require $1,000 worth of internal mods just to do one thing.
if you want some power and you dont want forced induction, go buy a v8
really the rb30 hasnt got much in the way of potential in NA form,
a cam and tune is all that can be done with out force induction and then your only looking at 130rwkw or so.
price wise it will cost the same if not more then just to do a turbo conversion and will only give eqiverlate to stock vlt power out put
so in the end its ultametly your choice, bite the bullet and go turbo with possiblity iof more power in future or strech the na to its limits at the same cost

Well, I would go for forced induction, but the reason I want to keep it NA and not V8 can be said in one word GIRLFRIEND. My girlfriend drives this car as well as me. My insurance covers her for the stock motor as an NA, if I go a V8 or any kind of forced induction my premium jumps to the point I can't afford it anymore. How many Horses is 130KW??? How many horses is the VL stock form??? And what kind of Cam should I get, i'm looking for something with a good power increase between 2,000RPM-5,000RPM.
And theres not alot available off the shelf cam wise for the RB30 either.
As others have said mate, dont waste your money on a N/A RB30. Either go FI or an 8, or spend the moeny on other things so you have a nice cruiser (new suspension, rims, stereo, etc)
Selling FG G6E Turbo and buying a N/A Supra
Yea, it will be a cam and mabye the pistons. BUt I will be having a HALTECH put into the thing as well. So with a cam, ECU, exhaust, and the thing tuned right do you think I should expect in terms of power. More over what I am looking for is more torque than overall power.
you will still get bugger all think of it this way
computer 1500 + turn (500ish)
cam 400?
pistons, rings, bore ect ect ect
theres probebly 5k?
go buy a s2 motor buy a complete turbo kit chuck it in
theres $2000 and alot more power
a while back there was a rb30 fully built on ebay for sale, it was all NA no FI and it only got something like 150rwkw, apaprntly he spend over 10 grand to get it to that.
really you have to stand back and think about it, you cant go v8 or FI because of insurance with the missues so you might have to just work on other aspects.
the handling of the car and apperance and if you want some pick up how about some gears and a good lsd set up.
is it worth spend all the extra money to get you to standerd turbo power at double the turbos price?? when you just hold off for a little while longer till insurance allows you and get the turbo or v8

tell your girlfriend to get her own car
and do a turbo conversion
Yea, ok Dose Pipe it would go over about as well as if anyone were to tell there 5 year old sister that they killed her hamster... She is looking at her own car. I got a m8 with a VP 5.0L 5 speed manual. I thought about buying that and then giving the VL to my girlfriend to use. That way I can have the potential for alot of grunt and with NA power. The biggest reason, other than insurance, that I want to stay away from forced induction is because with NA you get your power there right when you want it and need it. Just to put the point more clear this want I want in comparison. Again I am not knocking turbos or charged vehicles.
NA- *plants foot* no traction
Turbo-*plants foot* traction, some traction, no traction
Charged*plants foot* no traction *snaps second* *breaks supercharger belt*![]()
can someone just simply explain cam options.
Shane1989, i think ur better of just calling yellaterra or crane cames etc becuase u wont get an answer that doesnt include "just go for FI or v8 etc".
edit: ive heard of wade cams makin them, and according to rocket, so does crow cams.

You could do the twin cam head conversion. Putting an RB25 head on is supposed to give you the same horsepower as a standard RB30 Turbo.
