it seems the VL has 2 batteries recommended, 1 for the 6 and another, more powerful, I expect for the V8
does anyone know whether the V8 battery will fit into the 6 battery compartment?
what happened to all the other posts?
should do same size arnt thay
Same physical size, just more CCA's on the V8 battery.
Do some reading and you will know where the posts went.
If the battery is the same size phsically and the terminal posts match up then a battery with higher Cold Cranking Amps (CCA) will be fine. cheers
yes it seems that its all measured in CCA cold cranking amps nowdays and the size of the battery doesnt much indicate its power
I finally got one with 550 CCA which I think is specified for the VL V8, mine is a 6.
the battery in car was 380, others I looked at were 400 and 460 CCA
all were the same size
to be correctly mounted, theres a tongue at the rear housing that needs to have another tongue, or perhaps a groove in the battery to mate up with also a tongue is needed on the front for the clamp to tighten down on
not all the batteries I looked at had these, Ive seen the clamp just pushing against the battery, with nothing to really keep it secure
I had to accept a no maintainence type with no way of checking the electrolite levels which I dont like but was assured it had 2 pressure valves in case the battery was severely overcharged to stop it exploding
Ive found that the strongest battery that will fit is usually the best and seldom costs much more
mate i got a dodgy 40 dollar supercheap battery in my ride, with 6 months warrenty its been over 1 year now, installed it from my VC ..as long as u give the battery manintence it'll last for yonks.. u can buy battery clamps from most retail stores.. that smaller clamp clip with a bolt is just some extra for safety..
What kinda of setup do u have the requires a v8 battery? mines running an amp, a sub and a nice size speaker setup..
the supercheap ones are imported (filled and charged in aus)- the new ones (not on the shelf yet) are aust made.
just go proper century - be australian buy australian!
the imported cheaper batteries are of much cheaper build quality - when it comes to batteries you really get what you pay for!
Dave: post the dimensions and cca of the century ones
more CCA - quicker turnover
Ive always replaced batteries with a more powerful one, they get the engine going quicker and I think are good for the electrical syatem in general, keeping in mind that its all usually 20 years old now
Yellow top batteries
That's mine, forked out a sh*tload for it, I need a sealed battery so I had a look around, old mate with a 4wd recommended this for me, said he's never had any trouble - left the stereo's on for ages with it and still doesn't drop. Had it for 3 years and it was still doing 98% of it's cycle.
So it looked good, I'll find out soon. 750cca I think it was.
