I bought 1 from a holden dealer for about 6 dollars

Ive been told that they now last much longer and can be safely left beyond the holden change interval

^ As above, gates are far and away the best brand on belts.

Brand new they're $24, or for the Gates Racing Timing Belt to suit $88.

Its the labour thats the killer. I'm not keen to try it myself but am needing to replace mine soon I'm guessing that the current timing belt prolly has 170,000 km's on it seeing as my car has 270,000 on the clock. (221,000 when i got it and I assume it wasn't changed)

Yeah i know, i do all the work on my rides myself, apart from certain things like wheel alignment.. Are there any special tools needed for the job?

    Thanks

No special tools needed. Only a socket set and an allen key. I did 2 timing belts. Last 1 was about 4 years ago when I was replacing the water pump.

if you're doing all the work for a timing belt then you should do the water pump and front oil seals at the same time. it'll only take an extra 1/2 an hour to an hour.
