howdy all. i dont know if its just me bein used 2 the old tri-matic box. but my vl seems 2 shift out of gears real early. the only time it really holds the gears is when its on the floor. is this normal for the vl autos? allso has any 1 got a shift table , thats shows when it should be shifting at and at what speed?![]()
the germans designed it, the aussies built it, the japs got it moving and the wogs got it dosing...
It is normal compared to a tri-matic.
the 6 cyl jatco auto is much better than any trimatic
it has 2 modes, via the orange switch on the trans selector
in pwr (power) it hangs onto the gears a bit longer when changing up
you only get 4th in economy after everything is warmed up
Thats what I hated about my old VL auto. So I got a manual![]()
here is a description of the vl trans you may need to read it a few times to make sense of it![]()

hahaha yea true, but then u gota play wif gears and a clutch. thts 2 much 4 me lol. yea i thort the power button jst locked out overdrive, didnt actually affect shift patterns. ive allso noticed with these boxs they dont take off if u leave em in 2nd, sorta seems like they dont no wat to do. is this normal too?

Yes. Whatever gear you select it will stay in that gear. If you select 2nd it will take off and stay in second. And i have to disagree rb26dett, driving around with the pwr button in does infact make the gears change earlier. The only time I used the PWR button was when doing anything over 80kmph.
Well we will agree to disagree then.
I got my information from Paul at KEAS.
Well driving with the PWR button in my old VL used to driving around in 4th at 50kmph
when towing! pwr button out with pwr light on the dash = no fourth gear and no overdrive.![]()
