Hey guy's my vl has just started playing up badly on my way home from work. i had just finished doing a u-turn and now it's playing up. it will not rev over 1800 rpm. it idles fine and starts ok, but will not get over 1800rpm. a mechanic suggested one of the fuel pumps has crapped itself but he was only guessing. i stuck my head under the tank and can hear the outside pump working but couldn't hear the internal. when it reaches 1800 rpm i can hold it flat and it just dies, back off the gas and she idles beautifully again. as this is my daily driver to get to work i gotta get it fixed asap.
i really appreciate any help to solve my problem before i put a match to the car..cheers ray...![]()

might the V8 have a mechanical pump on the engine?
it has a carby so wouldnt need high pressure petrol to the engine
sounds silly but check your throttle cable?
Possibly coil packing it in?
thanks for your help guy's. yep throttle cable works fine. with it only being an rb30 i didn't think it would have a pump on the motor. i will check tomorrow about the coil. but i appreciate all your replies so far.

I would try replacing the fuel filter first before messing around with fuel pumps. A blocked cat converter or exhaust can cause the problems you are having too. Check your air filter also.![]()
true cat converter.....
The plug on the AFM? CAS?
hey guy's, i just wanted to say thanks for the help i received about my car. problem is now fixed. dam air flow meter. all sweet now.
