ok i got a problem with my VL
firstly, i did a diagnostic test in the morning everything came back clear except for a code 12 ( air flow meter circuit ), for 4 hours after the test it was driving around, didn't miss a beat, didn't lack power just acted normal, i got it home and went to replace the TB gasket ( as it was shagged ) took the TB off gave it a clean while it was off with some carbie/TB cleaner put new gasket on connected everything up as it should, all hoses in the right spots all sensors in the right spots, went to start it and nothing!would turn over and over but wouldn't fire, cleaned up some of the sensor terminals when to start it again, and it started! but idled at about 3000RPM! if i touched the accelerator its would die, just stall
, thought crap now what, check out a few things referred to the bible did some more checking went to start it again and it started! but wouldn't idle had to keep the car running by keeping my foot on the accelerator but every time i take it off its just died
,
question is im 90% sure its the AFM gone to buggery, can i replace the VL AFM with either a VN/VP/VR MAP sensor or can i replace it with the VS onwards AFM? ( rewiring is fine i can do that lol ) just don't particulary want to pay $180 for a new VL AFMwhen i can pay under half that for a MAP sensor or VS AFM please help

IS the Vl afm attached to the TB? Was it on when you clean the TB?
Carby clean and sensors dont respond well to mixing....
Cars are also netorious for playing up with carby clean in the manifolds... have you tired ot start it again recently?
As for the afm stuff / map stuff re VN i cant help sorry.
aZk.
nahh took the throttle body off completely and then took the TPS on the side off as well, then gave it a wash, waited for like an hour for it to dry properly then put it back on connected everything back up where it should, and yeh dramas from there on![]()
thought it was the AFM, replaced that ( that price for a new VL AFM is rediculous), put that on, car would start ( after an effort ) but would not idle, could keep it running if the press the accelerator abit and make it manualy idle on around 2500 - 3000RPM, after a little more susing out found the CAS ( crank angle sensor ) wasnt the nicer looking ( corrosion in the wire terminals, water marks around the CAS seat ect ect ) got a date on it 8/8/98 so ya shes a little old, going to replace that and HOPEFULLY this fixes the bloody problem
this has been holding up the rego'ing of the VL dangit!
