The main difference in servicing the 4speed Jatco box in a VL is it has two bands to adjust instead of only one band on a Trimatic. You just undo the pan to drain the oil like a trimatic and it has a filter inside that should be changed. The second brake band adjuster can be found inside the pan and the direct brake band adjuster is under a triangle shaped plate on the overdrive housing just behind the bellhousing. The second brake band should be adjusted to 12-15Nm then undo 3 turns and tighten the locknut. The direct brake band should be tightened to 7-10 Nm then undo 2 turns then tighten the locknut. You will need an 8mm socket on your tension wrench to adjust the direct brake band and i can't remember what size the second brake band was.

there are about eight bolts holding the filter in AND 1 NUT AND BOLT be careful not to lose the bolt in the trans when replacing the filter!
Nobody wants to play with me
Ive never done it but I think the rear chassis cross section needs to come off to make sump removal easier
beware of overfilling with trans fluid later
theres a vacuum modulator on the side where the diafram split on mine, so maybe replace it, quite cheap, vacuum line goes up to intake manifold
I did a auto trans oil change a few weeks ago and think I over filled it.
After this once in a while it was acting a bit weird eg when you stopped at lights and started rolling again, it would seem to stay in neutral for a few seconds and then jump.
I've now drained about 500 ml out but its now worse and slips until you revs the engine up.
Reverse is the same problem, no go.
Any ideas ?
Also, when its cold, how high should the level be ?
service refill is 3.4 litres how much did you put in? start the car and run it until it is operating temperature park on a level surface and leave the engine running in park and check your dipstick oil level for the most accurate measurement. if you mustcheck it cold, start the engine slowly select each gear down to first and back to park pausing for a few seconds in each gear leave the engine running on a flat surface and check the level with the dipstick

Seems it did not have enough in it when I drained it - put 1 litre back i n and it seems to run fine.
The problem is that when i check the dipstick when hot / in park etc it seems like it shows being over full, hence the question what the level is when cold.
Of interest when I did the service I only had 2 litres in the drain pan so replaced that plus some - so it was probably low to start with.
given the spec say 7 liters when dry, how can you change the rest of the fluid given I have given my auto a hard life inb the past (towing)
