    Default VL Brakes

Hey, the brakes on my vl are a bit spongey. Seems to be a problem for a few VLs. just wondering what i could do, in terms of upgrades and how much it would cost.
    thanks

You can upgrade the booster and master cylinder.

Not sure what is a straight fit but even VT/VX can be done with a little modification if you are upgrading the brakes as well. I have a VX setup for the VN, you'll either have to reflare the lines or argue with Race Brakes Sydney or Hoppers Stoppers for a month to get them to sell you line adaptors though.

As for the brakes, i'd definitely do the rears... Look around for a disc rear end off a 5L or something and if you really want brake performance you can get a Front VT upgrade kit which is 296mm or Mr Spares does 330mm kits for just over a grand.

if you pump the pedal and hear a hissing noise it will be a leaky master cylinder.

the brakes in my vk are really spongy untill i pump them a few times then they go back to normal. would this be the brake booster/master cylinder or just too many vacuum leaks lol

upgrade in brakes for a vl is set up depending how far you want to go.

a simple swapping of a calais disc rear end will help reduce the sponge a bit and increase the braking force,
swaping the front disc and calipers for the turbo or v8 set up,
if you can source one or afford a new 1" master cylinder (turbo/v8 master) this will also be of a huge gain in solving the pedal travel.

basically that is the best set using the stock part avalible.

then you can use the vt front disc and caliper if your really after a performance improvment.

That means there air in the system, so it needs bleeding.

cheap upgrade for vl turbo brakes (not standard vl brakes) is to use holden hz to wb brake pads
they have more grip as they are bigger pads .only mod required is to grind down the metal backing plate same size as the turbo backing plate
beat that, only for the cost of pads,

if they're still spongy give em a bleed. just did it on my VL last week and now i have crisp response on them. and yeah in regards to an upgrade, go vt brakes (twin piston fronts and single piston rears) or look into r33 brakes (4 piston fronts and twin piston rears)
