My car is dieing. Its got a multitude of problems, and i just need a few ideas as to what may be causing the problems.
List is as follows:
-Bad fuel economy - About 18L/100km
-If i apply the throttle on about 2%, the rev's drop and it feels like its going to stall, but never does
-On acceleration, it is blowing black smoke and leaving deposits all over the rear of the car.
Any idea's would be appreciated. I've got both Gregories and Max Ellery manuals but havent had a chance to go through them to diagniose the problem.
Thanks In Advance

Have you done a timing belt recently? Is it on the correct teeth? Or is it old and stretched? That will throw the cam timing out and may cause similar symptoms.
Have you done a code check?
I have two air-flow metres, might change it out tomorrow to see if that helps.
Timing Belt was changed when i fixed the rear main seal about 12 months ago, but the car was never properley tuned up after that, but has been running perfectly up until the last month or so.
Havent done a code check yet, going to get onto that tomorrow morning.
Just an update - The exhaust fumes smell oily

Check the fuel pressure regulator. If the vaccum hose falls off or leaks it will raise your fuel pressure so your engine will run rich.
id say its most likely your oxygen sensor.
when they fail they run rich as a default to protect the engine from the high temperatures of a lean burn.
that would be the best place to look
yeh sound running rich. if you want any injectors let me know or a )2 or anything else lol.
cheers

Did you end up sorting this problem out DARKVL? If so let us know what it turned out to be... I'm curious as to whether it was just a simple fix![]()
