Auto Gear shift problem?

Hi all,

My VL wagon has started only shifting gears at set points 40ks 1->2, 70ks 2->3 etc.... this started out of the blue?

I am now using sh1t loads of petrol and need to fix it ASAP.

Any help is welcomed..

Have you had it serviced recently? How is the oil level and what colour is it?

Check to see if the hose has fallen off the vacuum modulator. It is towards the rear of the trans on the left side and should run up to the inlet manifold. Sometimes the vacuum modulator can get a hole in the diaphram, which will cause the trans to shift abnormally and the trans fluid will get sucked into the engine through the vacuum hose and then burnt in your engine so it blows smoke. To check if the modulator diaphram has a hole in it you just pull the hose off the modulator and if any trans fluid runs out of the hose the diaphram is leaking and should be replaced by screwing another modulator in

It was the connection to the inlet manifold .



Looks like there has been a bit of DIY there in the past .
