Hi guys,
My dad is doing up a VL and is looking at doing a supercharger conversion on it. He has been looking at this kit.
The Castlemaine Rod Shop Supercharger Kits
We are unsure if we are going to run this kit due to not being able to run power steer and aircon ( loves his mod cons ).
Has anyone here used this kit, or have first hand experience with it?
Any thoughts on it?
thanks.
there crap, turbo it
Not really worth the hassle in my opinion, brings power up to around what a standard VLT has.
ok so im guessing that none of you have ever tried something new and enjoy just being dumb sheep?.....I said that we'd like to try the supercharge route, not turbo like every dumb hairy back gino wog wannabe loser.....
Turbos are for girls and poofs....what are you?
i can see what ur saying fordnut, u already stated u don't want a turbo so move on people. but thats a big statement u've made. just cause my dad drives a 2005 hino fd ranger 6 pro tilt tray tow truck, and that happens to be diesel turbo intercooled he's a girl or a poof? ah ok, must inform him of that, i don't think he's heard that one before.
lol thats a broad statement. i know a lot of people around have turbo's and make rediculous power, and quite reliably. if you don't want a turbo thats fine. but please don't act like a 2 year old kid in our forums, and try to cause an argument. now thats been a girl or a poof more than having a turbo'd car is

How is, buying what is in essence a mass produced kit "Doing Something Different"?
There are plenty of Supercharged VL's out there and you wont be unique in doing it. If you want to do something unique, maybe you should get rid of the VL and start again with something like a Reliant Robin. Im sure that there isnt a Supercharged Reliant Robin in Australia. Then you could REALLY be unique.
You asked for an opinion, you got it. If you dont want to hear peoples opinions then dont ask for them, it really isnt that hard.

the superchargers arnt all that good there prity small and dont last all that long
the way the crs kit sets them up they create alot of heat so not much power
there have been many people with supercharged rb30's most of them end up going turbo in the end this includes vl owners and a few r31 owners i know
dont waste your time
haha, ease up you f*ckwits.
if he wants supercharger then go the supercharger, i wouldn't call it unique but its definitely different to what the majority of people have.. and being a supercharger the power is being delivered differently so it feels different to drive, even though its not as powerful as what the stock turbo would be.
all in all, i'd be doing a search, i've made many a comment on this forum about superchargers in the vl. basically your best of getting the charger yourself and making the kit, the charger is only about 400-500 dollars. All you need to do is make a bracket and get some piping made up. Slightly cheaper then 1800.
for 1300 u can have a turbo conversion kit and is the much beter option and more reliable... but if u wanna supercharge it go ahead but it wont produce anymore power then a stock vlt..if u wanna be different then get rid of the vl because any idea that comes into your head i can assure u has been done before..
wrecking VL COMMODORE 5 speed
FOR SALE : supra 5 speed box suite holden v8 $800
For 1300 how is a turbo kit going to be more reliable?
One of my family members is currently running a supercharged VL, hes making some pretty decent figures but the work is a bit more involved than the turbo setups.
As far as CRS (Castlemain Rod Shop) superchargers go, they are pretty good for the amount of cash they cost. Mind you if you have the know how, and the effort, you could source your own kit for the same, if not cheaper price and perhaps get a better charger than the SC-14, that i know they use for the 3.8 L V6 (not sure if they use the same for the RB30) However, for a 3 litre engine i dont think you would need anything that much bigger than the SC-14.
When buying these kits from CRS you have to remember its not a brand new kit, its a serviced blower from a Toyota. But you are given a warranty, more than what you would get from an Ebay charger or something along those lines.
Personally i would give this supercharger route a go, ive seen it on many 3.8 litre V6s and they do go quite well, and if you treat them well they will last. They arent exactly "dodgy" as some people make them out to be. The supercharger route would be a welcome change from the TSU TSU TSU i hear from the other 100000000000000000000000000 VLs.
Good luck.

Nope...i like to post and read forums by normal people not zit faced knob-heads that have no idea what they are talking about. Thats why most of the time i post up on the ford forums. Not that here is soo bad but as i said this VL stuff is not for me it's for my old boy. I'm doing up a 1969 ZC fairlane with a 383 stroker....I'm not a fan of 6cly cars thats why ive asked the question.
The only thing you should chuck up on a the Calais Turbo forums are directions to defect stations cleverley disguised as cruise meeting locations.![]()

I'm not a zit faced knob head with no idea what I'm talking about. But cheers for the advice, I'll keep an eye out for them.
