I HOPE SOMEONE HERE CAN HELP ME OUT
I have posted this problem on another site but no one seems to know what is wrong
I have an lj torana, 1 and a half years ago i put an rb30 from the vl in it!
I reconditioned the engine myself so when i was finished it was virtually new (bearings, rings, gaskets, filters...etc) i knew crank angle sensors were a common problem in these so i did not bother checking it and just got a new one!
ever since she has been running fine (broken a few axles along the way) anyway a few weeks ago i broke an axle, because it is a commodore axle cut and resplined to fit the torana it takes about a week and a half to get a new one made up! when i fitted the new axle and went to start my car it would not start (it would start for a second then die). i checked the air flow meter because i was told that might be the problem, it was fine. i checked the fuel, i had good volume and pressure. i checked spark and it seemed fine. i checked the self diagnosis on the computer all it said was wrong was the speed sensor (which i have never had in the first place because i am running the torana speedo, and the speed sensor is in the back of the vl speedo plus the computer has always said that was a problem even when the car has been running fine for 1 and a half years)
now here is the funny part, yesterday i connected gas (from a portable BBQ bottle) to the pcv's hose (just take it off the rocker cover and connect gas up to it and the gas goes into the plenum chamber) and my car would start and idle, i could disconnect the gas and put the hose back on the rocker cover and the car would continue to idle using petrol, but if i tryed to rev the engine it would die and i could not start it again unless i connected the gas back up. today i tryed to start it with the gas and it wouldnt even start with that.
does anybody have a clue what might be wrong!
HELP!
did you just "look" at the air flow meter or did you test to see if its working? a visual of an afm can not tell if its faulty.
also, does the car run on gas or petrol? or both?
maybe the pcv valve is stuffed/blocked?
could be a few things, sorry
HI VEE KA
i test the afm, the car runs on petrol and the pcv is fine!
run some oil around all the plenumn joins and so forth check if theres any air leaks as i found over the years thats been a problem for me when it starts to die and wont idle...
also have u reset the computer each time u have played with the afm
but it sounds like the afm isnt getting the right air readings

It could be a broken wire going into the plug on the air flow meter or crank angle sensor.
