gday guys,
ive got a vl berlina 86 with front end damage. the interior and everything beside the damge is in great/ rare condition with everything working and low km(130000) etc. i just thought id see if anybody knows what it would be worth to someone looking for parts or a restoration job and what the best way to sell it would be.
cheers
andrew
Throw a few more details on here, engine, transmission, etc with a couple of pictures of the car and damage. If the damage is pretty bad and not worth repairing then you might be better off wrecking it yourself and selling off the parts. Anyway post some pictures and I'm pretty sure you'll get a few starting numbers for sale price from the good people of this forum.
Cheers, Heefers.
basically everything is stock except 15' holden aloys. its auto with 128000kms on the odometer. it was purchased off the original owner at the end of august who was an old lady using the car for country driving. always garaged. basically brand new dunlop tyres (nothing special). everything is working(cruise control etc), security system installed, great interior and exterior
ill take some pictures now and post them asap
cheers

look what YOU! have done to that fine vehicle.have you had repair quoted on it? where is it? are you able to repair it or use it for parts if you decide to get another VL? that would be a treasure chest of parts that many people here would want at the right price and the right PLACE! where ever you are as whole car they will want it cheap, as rare immaculate parts you will almost name your price
the red velour would look great in my vl exec

Nobody wants to play with me
yeh im in melbourne. ive been quoted about $3000 to fix it (really rough estimate), but i didnt really shop around, coz id need to pay like another 500 in towing. also im not sure the car will perform in the same way as before the crash or whether ill find small issues coming with it. as far as using the parts in another vl im not sure how much it would cost in labour and etc to transfer the parts and how effective it would be, but its always an option.
cheers

If you can do without the car for a little while, you could talk to the nearest TAFE college that conducts the Panel Beating courses for apprentices. They are always on the lookout for these kind of repairs and from memory you only pay for the parts and materials used, then they ship it over to the Spray Painting apprentices to work their magic. It's usually third year apprentices doing the work as part of their assessments so the quality of the work is high and QC'd by the instructors.
By a stroke of coincidence when I was doing my apprenticeship I got a VL with exactly the same damage as yours to repair. It required a fair bit of staightening on the rack and then a bit of cut and shut action on the inner guard among a few other panels. When we finished only the trained eye would ever know that the vehicle had been repaired to the extent that it was.
As far as performance and driving will go after your repairs, it should be just the same as prior to the bingle providing that the repairs are carried out correctly and you get a wheel alignment carried out by a professional tyre centre.
Cheers, Heefers
yeh thanks heefers i may give that a go. do you happen to recall how long it took?
cheers,
andrew
Because it's repaired by a training organisation, it may take a while as they need to fit the vehicle in around intakes of classes. I should of mentioned before that it's been 12 years since I did my apprenticeship and that it was in QLD however I imagine that the syllabus would be the same in most states. In any case it's definetely worth looking into to keep that prime example of original condition motor vehicle on the road.
Cheers, Heefers
fair enough.
thanks mate
eyyy budddy we had a vl come in with the same damage maybe abit more worse but the damage was on the right side we bought a damaged vl from the back for bout 600 and cut the font from both cars and welded from the spot welds and is perfect soo thats a cheap way to go if u can find a wrecking vl for cheap cheers :P
