Can the oil sender, next to oil filter,be cleaned successfully once taken from motor and how can it be tested for correct operation or is this a sealed unit requiring renewal. Thanks people for your expertise once again.Martin
you could clean the electrical connection otherwise you can still buy a new sender from a holden dealer, my sender was faulty but I got a good one from another VL
you may have a faulty gauge but I dont know how to tell
An oil pressure sender is not serviceable. Once it breaks, it is broken. You need another one. New they are only around the $10 mark.
Being a Berlina, I think the VL had an oil pressue gauge? not a light. If the gauge is working and showing upwards and downwards pressure when driving its working. A new oil pressure sender is about $70-80 (for a gauge) a oil pressure switch is about $10 (for a light) You can remove and clean them (be careful use the right size spanner as they can break easily) wrap a bit of teflon on the thread after you clean it up. Hope that helps!
Ok guys thanks for replying, my gauge is reading up and down,so no probs. there I guess.I just thought because needle on oil gauge still flicks to high about 5 sec. after starting up sender might be culprit,as I have changed oil filter a couple of times, the ones that I know have valves in them.Maybe a couple of members on here would remember my thread on this last year.Any more ideas here would certainly be appreciated. Martin
Does the gauge flick to high with no apparent change in engine speed etc. What do you mean by high, does it go off scale? How long does it stay there.
Could possibly be the oil pump pressure relief spring sticking if it only does it while cold.
Yes,flicks to high on scale not off scale and yes with change in engine. Then after 10 min.or so, graduately drops back to 2nd notch.Could this be oil pump pressure relief spring sticking, if so where is it and how can I fix it.Thanks for your response. Martin
I think all is correct as my gauge does exactly the same
