Default Air Flow Meter is it faulty?

Ok my car has been suffering massive power loss and it's getting dangerous in situations like overtaking.

Straight after a gear change it seems as if the car takes a few seconds to kick in.

When it kicks in the power isn't even instant, the power kind of comes and goes real quick and then it's there.

It's more noticeable when I put my foot down but it's still there either way

If I keep the car revving high on gear change it seems to be better than changing gears and driving at a normal pace.

I've been told it could be the air flow meter, We started the car and let it idle, we then unplugged the airflow meter and it dropped idle a bit then seemed to recover but we think it was a tad quieter than when it was plugged in.

Please help it's driving me insane and I want my car to run as it should!

hey mate i had this same problem with my calais, i tried udjusting the AFM and was fine for a while then ***ed up again, replaced fuel filter and got fuel lines cleaned same thing again. it could be a range of things never figured out what mine was as its siting in the shed at the moment due to other problems but somethings you shuold check are CAS (Crank Angle Sensor), fuel filter and pump, AFM thats just a few i kno of sure there are more things. its kind of a trial elimination thing just gotta do them all till you find which one it is

it helps if you can get a loan of an AFM from a friend who also has a VL with the 6cyl motor

an autoelectrician could, I think check it for you,you should check the plug for any corrosion also a shot of contact cleaner to the sensor is worth trying

wonder if it might be a blocked fuel filter?

Check your fuel pressure/flow mate,VL's have 2 fuel pumps an inner and an outer.I replaced recently an inner fuel pump on a VL turbo having similar symptoms to what you have mentioned. But when checking your fuel pump pressure also check the flow, you can have good pressure within specs but if the flow isnt there or hasnt got enough it will not supply enough flow to your fuel injectors and create poor performance.cheers
