yeah just a LTD Ed VL, nothing special apart from the badges/stickers. the LV2 is the engine code for a 304 V8, again nothing special.

they are like the americas cup edition VK Calais' you see every now and then, basically just to commemorate an event.

I think some of the last VL's produced had the injected 304 in them. The majority of V8 VL's were carbied 308's. But there were a few that came from the factory with injected 304's. Then they started using the 304 fulltime with the introduction of the VN.

    Nah all VL V8s (Carby/injected) are 304s.

I actually think the switch was made in the series 2 VK.

304 was introduced halfway through VK(mid 85), for Group A racing rules.
ALL VLs will be 304s. Both carbys.

You could say they were still 308s, the way they get the 304 specification is with sleeves in the bores.

They still run the same serial numbers for the V8. the VK in the 400000 range. VL's had VJ 570000 approx.

The VN's started around the VU578000 range. The prefix was the only change

We remain in the dark to date on this one. Only thing it may have been was the memcal tune. ie 180kw engine.

No one who has a SVU prefix has come forward with any info. I have a list of some of the engine numbers with this prefix - but no other info.

So I conclude the engine spec was identical - just different memcal tune.

May just have to buy one and strip it down

My old 5L VL Calais had 308 stamped into the block. I still call them 308 out of habit, because really there is very, very little difference.

    Some people still call VN-VT 5Ls 308s.

most people refer 308 - carby, and 304 - injected.

And yes, theres a tool with a VS Clubby with HSV 308 on the plate. Quite obviously we all know no HSV is a 308.....

all std V8 VL's were carbied 304's, not 308's and the only injected 304 in a VL was in the HSV GpA Walkinshaw, no other VL got the injected engine. even the first HSV VL was a carbie 304 in the SV88.

88 green vn - why is it that we are always in contact and loose contact, and then catch up again cause u have a answer for me, or i have an answer for you.

in this case, i have an answer for you i think. i have in my possesion a stripped efi 5lt engine, with prefix SVU. i pulled it out myself from a vq series one statesman, and can assure you it was the correct original engine in that particular car.

the only car's i have seen with this engine original is vq statesman's. i have never seen any other car with a 5l with svu prefix's from the factory. going off what i've found in this engine, its all the same internally. apparantely i had the computer checked at it had a different tune for more torque down low (obviously due to more body weight in the statesman series).

i have been told once or twice that the svu engines are ex police engines that holden worked from the factory. what a load of crap. every ex cop car i've looked at had vu prefix, not svu. why is it people think cop cars have special chips, and worked engines and ****. holden have to provide a warranty for them, thats why standard tunes are made to be quite easy on the engine, so holden has less chances of warranty issues.

Fantastic - confirms my thinking. tune was the only notable change. And yes they were for VQ's only. Some SVU's have found there way into various cars.

But SVU = VQ + tune.

    Your a champ. Cheers.

PS a photo of the engine prefix/no would be great.
