    Default VL GP/A Calais

Guys,im looking for factual info regarding this/these cars. Yesterday i was out for a ride down south and came up to this car with a for sale sign on the back window, followed the lady for a while and decided to ask her to pull over at the garage, from the back it looked like any other Walkinshaw VL but didnt have the boot spoiler, badges and side skirts but a very small lip type one fitted. Now this where things start getting tricky.

I ask the owner, who is about 60 for some details,Purchased new by her husband from Brian Gardener Holden, the story he claims goes something like this, the first 500 GP/A sold well and HSV at the time desided that it would do another run of 250 cars, these cars did not sell as well as expected, hence Gardeners deciding to chuck on a Calais front and fitting leather to the seats,he recalls they had 4-5 sitting there at the time of purchase, both white and silver? The car is generaly in average condition for its age 270k km and the leather is showing the signs that it has never had any leather treatment, basicaly farkked. We exchanged #`s and i gave him 100 bucks as a deposit and he will hold it for a week.

Now for the trip home and verify things. R1`s and speed limits dont go hand in hand, especialy when there on a mission and long straight streches of country roads.

After looking for info on the net, there is the possibility of 9 cars being produced, dealer fitted or HSV fitted is not known.( I find it hard to believe that 1 dealer has 4 or 5)Emails sent to various clubs/groups has yet to confirm anything.

They are chasing 25k for the car

    Your thoughts??????????

Very rare car and sounds like a bargain for 25k.

I read a heaps of info on this model over at calaisturbo.com.au awhile ago, I just did a quick search but couldnt find anything. If you start a thread over there you will find the correct answers. I remember reading HSV had trouble selling some of the last walkys so they started fitting parts to them like the flip up lights etc

EDIT. Here you go champ, heres some info and pics. Apparently only 9 walkys had some of the bodykit replaced and fitted with calais parts. Pics of the Calais-Walkinshaw - calaisturbo.com.au

So I assume HSV said it is all good?

I didn't think any VL Group A's come from the factory with leather? What build number does it have on the plate? Has all the Twin throt setup etc?

The fact the dealer has made these changes suggests to me it isn't as valuable. But hey, if you want to pay that much for an old car...go for your life

Each to thier own i spose,my money my choice.

As far as valuable goes, i dont think i will really know until i have to sell. Its one of 750 built. With the way muscle car are going in prices, this car may end up making more money for me than super in the long run,i am sure after restoring the car i will make my money back and hopefully a little more, buts its real value is only what someone is willing to pay.Its a better option than a VE SS that wont and cant retain its value.

Yes its a genuine HSV Group A VL SS,Model VL8VK19-XV2,Eng L89,Trans M39 Axle GU4 Genuine body kits still available from dealers so im told and only requires the frontal and rear plastics to return it to factory.I am hoping that that i can restore the car for around a total of 50k, which includes the purchase price.

At this stage in my life im willing to take a punt,no kids,no mortgage.Only time and money will tell.

    Cheers

How will you get the genuine seats?

Also, did you actually contact HSV to confirm authenticity?

    Good luck with it all.

Yes, HSV confirmed the authenticity from the VIN #,the car VIN is the same as stated in the owners hand book and rego. The compliance plate # matches the body # stamped on the strut tower, the HSV build # matches the VIN # and the eng # matches the owners handbook and rego. The seat frames are the original items, i only need to get them recovered which will not be a drama. The drama from where i sit is obtaining body parts and keeping the cash flowing in and not loosing interest and ensuring the work that i farm out is of a quality that stands the test of time and increases my investment.
