Default My VL - Someone Wanted It More Than Me

    Howdy All,

Just wanted to share a little bit of sad news and vent my anger...

This morning I walked down to my VL and noticed the front driver door not shut properly. I got into it and there was stuff everywhere (stuff I had bought to do a service on it). So I come to the conclusion someone had broken in and wanted to drive it away.

So I went to put my key into the ignition n drive off to work, only to find a 1/2 snapped off key in the ignition......

After a lot of stuffing around I got the 1/2 broken key out and looked at the rest of the car. They have completly ripped off the passerside front door lock (Maybe they took it with them to get a locksmith to make a keey) and come back tonight n drive it away.

Then also mashed my driverside door lock, so I can't even lock it!

What a bunch of tools they were. They opened up the boot, rummaged though it but took nothing. I had and still have a $300 sidchrome toolset, along with other stuff in there!

Ok, so I now know not to leave anything on value in it, just incase next time they want my tools as well.......

So now I have two doors without locks. I guess I'll have to go to a wrecker n get two new locks, but is it hard to put these into the doors?

Pretty easy to put them in the doors.

My advice is to go to Holden and get a new ignition barrel aswell, then get a locksmith to redo the door locks to match the ignition barrel key.

That way you've got a new set and it won't match anything that they could get made up. If they do.

From memory you just take the door trim off and it has a screw that holds it into place. I think.. It's been a while.

Easy to fit the locks when you have the handle out of the car. Lock is held in by just a slide type clip. May just pay to get a full lock set - doors, boot & ignision. AND a club lock too.

Cant remember at all... As Bax said ^^^ it's been a while. Just that when the door handles our out you have more room to see/move. When you take the trim off you will be able to see. I'ts not all that hard once the trim is off.

club lock lasts about 5 secs when they hacksaw through the steering wheel and throw it away

want the car to remain in its location the alarm with 3 point immobiliser and a kill switch , only way it will go then is by tow truck

I got told ages ago that doing that was a waste of time because apparently the top bit breaks off really easily?

I guess the only way to find out is to try it... Anyone up for a drive to the wreckers to experiment?

easy option is kill switch hooked up to your neutral switch on ur auto (if its auto )

then it doesnt matter if they do get in they aint going anywhere

if i have been forced to leave it anywhere like a shopping centre or car park i pull out the auto thing under my dash and put it under the seat pull the coil ht lead

Club locks are pointless but are a general deterent when someone is looking for a quick getaway!!

and ive heard solex locks are good in theory to stop ur mates using their own keys but are just as easy to break into using something simple as a hammer and a punch

i had someone get in thru a door I forgot to lock and went thru everything, stealing my drivers licence
also someone damaged the passengers door lock trying to force it but didnt get in

in some cases the door and ignition lock wear so that any VL key will open and start almost any VL

some sort of strongbox with lock bolted to the floor would seem needed if you need to leave anything of value in the car

I once heard about someone who used seat covers on their VH, and when they would leave the car, used to put a piece of wood with a nail driven through it between the seat and the cover.

You'd REALLY have to remember it was there though!!!!!

Still no good.. a kill switch should kill all power to the ignition.. but using your setup, you can short circuit the starter motor directly from the engine bay and it will still start.
